Keel Cooler Airtest Procedure
1. Verify that the interior of the unit is dry. If not, place on the drying stand, the unit must be dry inside before proceeding.
2. Install all drain plugs and inlet/outlet caps or flanges.
3. Check the pressure gage for proper test pressure of 35 PSIG (±2 PSI) and that the gage is within its calibration period. (1 year)
4. Connect air supply hose to nipple on cap or flange.
a. The indicator light will change from green to red indicating a loss of pressure in the supply line.
b. Once the unit is within approximately 5% of test pressure the indicator light will change from Red to Yellow.
5. Submerge the unit in the test tank.
6. Inspect visually for leaks (bubbles).
7. Keep unit pressurized for 6 minutes.
a. The indicator light will change from yellow to green signaling that sufficient time has passed. The green light is an indication that the internal pressure has not fallen more than 5% of the test pressure for a period of 6 minutes.
It does not verify the presence of leaks.
8. If after 6 minutes no leaks are found, ask a QC inspector to verify that there are no leaks.
9. If any leaks are found, depressurize the unit and make necessary repairs to stop the leak. (see patching procedure) Repeat the airtest procedure.
10. Initial the appropriate section of the inspection sheet and note any leaks that were patched.
