IFB W912BU-09-B-0041

32. Is the annulus between the PVC casing and embankment to be grouted to the surface, or just in the 2 feet seated into rock? Bid in accordance with Section 31 32 23, paragraph 3.4.1.

33. Is there any potential fill areas on-site that the contractor may place drill cuttings?

Drill cuttings may be stockpiled in staging area until final disposal off-site per Drawing G-2, Note 4 and Section 01 50 00 of the IFB.

34. Once the lake is drawn down, will there be flow through the outlet tunnel? Yes.

35. What is the thickness of the existing asphalt pavement and stone base? Refer to Existing conditions plan on Drawing C-1 of the IFB.

36. What portion will be down-stage drilled and grouted and what portion will be ascending grouted? All grouting is down-stage grouting per Section 31 32 23.

37.Please verify the intent of Section 31 32 23, para 1.7.2.4 and 1.7.2.5 which indicates that holes may be drilled on 40 foot centers in each line, but a separation distance of no less than 120 shall be maintained between open holes in one line and drilling, water pressure testing and grouting operations. The referenced paragraphs require grout holes to be drilled on 40 foot centers in each line, however a separation distance of no less than 120 shall be maintained between open holes in one line and drilling, water pressure testing and grouting operations in the opposite line of the grout curtain. Paragraphs 1.7.1.d and 1.7.1.e require 120’ spacing within the same line.

Bid according to the IFB.

38. The bid form includes a significant quantity of sand which indicates a significant amount of low mobility grout is anticipated. Low mobility grout typically involves considerable more cost and effort per unit than high mobility grout. Is a significant quantity of low mobility grout anticipated? If so, a separate pay item for placing low mobility grout is requested. A significant quantity of low mobility grout is not anticipated. The sand may be used as filler in grout used to backfill casing in overburden. Note that grout placement is measured for payment by the hour per the bid schedule and Section 01 22 00.

IFB W912-BU-09-B-0041

colloidal mixers can produce a near continuous supply of fully hydrated bentonite slurry.

Can the 12 hour hydrate specification be deleted if high shear colloidal mixer is used?

No. Refer to Section 31 32 23, para 3.5.12 regarding climatic factors. Bid in accordance with the IFB.
