Q1. The Reference drawings EP23-EP27 show pavement removal. On the demolition plans this states that it will be by others. Is this pavement removal part of this contract?
A1. The drawing he referred to are reference drawings and indicate pavement removal. This is consistent with it saying on the demo drawings that the pavement removal to be done by others.
So no, it is not part of the contract work.
Q2. Stations are needed for boring locations.
A2. Boring locations are indicated on the logs - either coordinates or stations or "next to Boring X" was indicated on each log.
Q3. Will there be testing required after the installation of the concrete pipe?
A3. Bid as specified.
Q4. Section 3.4.1 (33 00 00 pg. 7) refers to a placing a band over the joint and tightening with rods and bolts. Can you give more details of what is required for this process?
A4. Bid as specified.
Q5. What class of concrete pipe will be required?
A5. Answered by Amendment 0003.
Q6. Is it the intent of the specifications to require soil stabilization of all fills that use onsite excavated CL and ML materials? There is approximately 350,000 cubic yards of excavated material that will be used as fill on this project. Almost all of this will be CL or ML material. If the contractors are required to stabilize theses soils it will add about $9,000,000 to the bid.
Although a number of soil borings were provide in the contact documents, it’s not possible to accurately predict the volume of excavated soil that will actually require stabilization. Is possible to establish a unit price bid item for soil stabilization so that all the contractors are bidding the same project? If a unit price item is established then owner would only pay the successful contractor for the actual soil stabilization that they perform.
A7. Contractors are required to determine the amount of soil requiring stabilization by interpreting the boring logs.
Q8. If fill is required for the project, is the fill coming from Aberdeen Proving Ground site.
Please advise location and distance of this fill from the project.
A8. As indicated in the specification, fill and excavated material can be used on the job.
Q9. Is Stabilization Fabric required under all Road ways? Plan sheet C127 “Gravel Test Track“ has darkened line at bottom of detail with no indication of what this is. Runway 4 detail has same darkened line with note “Stabilization fabric typ.” Is this stabilization fabric typical for all road sections. IE.g. Crossing #1, #2 etc. Plan sheet C117 and C

118 show stabilization fabric in all details for Crossing #1, #2, MFRI Access Driveway, however, the gravel test road is not clear as to the stabilization fabric.
A9. Geotextile is required beneath all roadways and the runway overrun as shown on the typical sections. The geotextile was called out on the runway overrun detail on C127 with the word "TYP" in parenthesis. This means wherever else that line is shown on sheet C127 it represents that stabilization geotextile.
Also, on sheets C114, C117, and C118 it is called out once on each drawing with the word "typical", but shown beneath all the typical sections on the sheet. Same applies as above. It is called out once for clarity, but then shown on all sections where it represents the geotextile.
Q10. Specifications, Section 32 – 92 – 19 Page 5, Paragraph 3.2 Placing Topsoil, read 100 inches of topsoil to be replaced. Can you clarify if this is accurate or if it is not accurate? If it is not please let me know the correct depth of replacement.
A10. Please refer to Amendment No. 0003
Q11. Section 01-78-29 Page # 3 Para. 1.6.1 – References AutoCad 7.0. Is this the correct software, it does not seem to exist?
A11. AutoCadd 2007 is required.
