SCOPE OF WORK
SCOPE OF WORK
Spillway Gate Heater Redesign Gavins Point Dam, SD
1. PROJECT DATA:
TITLE: Spillway Gate Heater Redesign
BUILDING/FACILITY: Spillway Gate, Gavins Point Dam, SD.
CONTRACT DURATION: 120 days from NTP (Notice To Proceed)
SOLICITATION #: W9128F20Q0069
2. GENERAL SCOPE:
The Contractor shall furnish all supervision, labor, materials, off-site facility, qualified aluminum welders, and equipment to fabricate new spillway gate wall heater aluminum plates and hardware shown on the bridging drawings. Work shall be completed by trained and certified fabricators who have minimum of 2 years of experience in the aluminum fabrication and welding work. The contractor will be responsible for transportation, loading / unloading of all furnished items to / from the Gavins Point Dam and contractor’s off-site facility. It shall be noted that the contractor will not be involved in the installation of newly furnished heater plates.
3. BACKGROUND:
The existing spillway gate wall heater plates (including bottom wall plates and cover plates) have been damaged due to high volume of water released in 2019 (gates 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10). Assessment of the failed plates by the Gavins Point Dam staff concluded that the possible causes of failure were the inadequately sized and insufficient number of anchor bolts, and the design of the existing bullnose on the bottom wall plates. The current design allowed separation of the cover plates from the bottom wall plates. Hence the Gavins Point Dam staff proposed a modified design of the heater plates including larger, longer, and more anchor bolts with modified bullnose profile. New design will provide 1/2” x 5-1/2” long 316 stainless steel expansion wedge anchors with new bullnose to wrap around the leading edge of the cover plate providing approximately 1/3” of air gap between the water and the cover plate. Although there are spare plates in the powerhouse, it has been considered to be more cost effective to fabricate all new 5 sets for installation and additional 2 sets of plate as spares for future use in lieu of modifying existing plates considering the cost related to the freight and modification of bullnose that would be required to reuse the spare plates on site.
4. DETAILED FABRICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Contractor will be required to fabricate all new wall heater plates at the contractor’s offsite facility.
Contractor shall provide all materials, equipment, qualified aluminum fabricators and supervision for the required work.
For additional detailed scope of work, refer to bridging drawings (ATTACHMENT 1).
5. PHOTOS (ASSEMBLED EXISTING HEATER PLATES):
