Questions from Fort Randall Dam Powerhouse Doors Site Visit:
1) How must bids be submitted?
a. See Amendment 2, Instructions to Quoters for bid submission requirements.
2) At what date will the doors be able to be removed? Will that effect the completion date?
a. Doors will not be able to be removed until after May 11, 2019. See Amendment 2, section 00 73 00 paragraph 2 Commencement and Completion of Work. See
Amendment 2 for updated completion dated.
3) Are temporary doors required after removal of existing doors
a. See Amendment 2, section 00 73 00 paragraph 2 commencement and completion of work for door closure requirements.
4) Who supplies the conduit from the Junction Box to the control Room? Who supplies the conduit from the Junction Box to the Card Readers? Who supplies the junction box?
a. USACE will supply the conduit from the Junction Box to the Control Room. The contractor shall supply the junction box. The Contractor shall supply the conduit after the junction box. The contractor will also supply all wiring from doors to computer room. USACE will pull the wiring/cable from the junction box to the computer room. See drawing EY501.
5) Who installs the junction box?
a. The junction box will be installed by the contractor to the conduit installed by USACE.
See Amendment 2, section 00 73 00 paragraph 2 commencement and completion of work and drawing EY501.
6) Do the frames stay or are they removed
a. Refer to Information Drawing 84E4759 for structural steel components that remain.
7) Where does the Junction Box need to be mounted?
a. Contractor shall mount the junction box to the end of the USACE supplied conduit.
8) What cable are required and what length of cable?
a. Per Drawing EY501, size wires per NEC, Manufacturer’s Instructions, and for voltage drop. See Amendment 2, section 00 73 00 paragraph 2 commencement and completion of work for length of cable required.
9) Where does the card reader need to be mounted?
a. Refer to Sheet EY501 for Card Reader Mounting Height.
10) Do the keys only unlock one door?
a. Refer to Section 08 71 00 paragraph 3.5 Hardware Sets for each door exit device function.
11) What is the wall made of?
a. Refer to Drawing 84E4759 Section G‐G and Plan View.
12) I have talked with a door company and they said they at looked at this and there were problems with the door specs? (USACE requested the potential bidder submit a list of concerns the door company had with the specifications.)
12a) The existing threshold is 5 3/8 inch. The new threshold only come in 5" or 6".
What option would USACE like?
a. In the event a 5 3/8” threshold is not available, USACE would be willing to accept a 6” threshold.
12b) USACE requests a minimum forcing strength of 2300 for the electric strike.
No manufacturer has a capability of 2300 only 2000lb.
a. A minimum 2,300 pound pull force is standard in USACE Specs and has been supplied in other contract actions.
13) How would USACE like the contractor to drill thru the frames?
a. USACE does not direct the process to install the wiring. However the contractor must take the utmost caution drilling thru the frames so as not to crack or damage the surrounding granite.
14) Does the conduit need to be installed thru the wall or is it possible just run the cabling through the wall?
a. See amendment 2, Drawing EY501 Note 2.
15) Is granite located behind the door frames?
a. Refer to Drawing 84E4759 Section G‐G.
