PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Install items at locations indicated, according to manufacturer's instructions. Verify all measurements and take all field measurements necessary before fabrication. Valves and flexible couplings located on each riser shall be completed one at a time and will require the penstock to be dewatered during replacement. It takes approximately 24 hours to completely pump the penstock dry. Powerhouse personnel will dewater the penstock and enure it is empty prior to removal of the valve and coupling.

Powerhouse personnel will issue a clearance to the unit and the contractor will be required to sign the clearance and provide a lock to place on the lock box. Once the clearance is issued the contractor will have 5 working days to remove and replace the flexible couplings and butterfly valve. Only one penstock will be dewatered at a time, after one riser is complete the penstock will be refilled and the next one drained.

SECTION 05 50 15 Page 4

3.2 Piping Shields

The piping shields on each riser shall be removed and cleaned. The downspouts will be replaced with 1 inch flexible PVC vinyl tubing and secured with a new clamp. All fasteners shall be replaced and shall be stainless steal. After the piping is painted the shields shall be replaced and secured to provide a continuous seal around the piping to divert any leakeage into the shields and down the tubing. Provide anchorage where necessary for fastening miscellaneous metal items securely in place.

Include for anchorage not otherwise specified or indicated slotted inserts, expansion shields, and powder-driven fasteners, when approved for concrete;

toggle bolts and through bolts for masonry; machine and carriage bolts for steel; through bolts, lag bolts, and screws for wood. Do not use wood plugs in any material. Provide non-ferrous attachments for non-ferrous metal. Make exposed fastenings of compatible materials, generally matching in color and finish, to which fastenings are applied. Conceal fastenings where practicable.

3.3 Steel Piping

The existing twenty inch steel piping to be removed is cast iron. There is approximately 17 feet of corroded pipe to be removed and replaced. One end of the piping has a 125lb flange and other is joined to the adjacent piping via a flexible coupling. The new pipe shall be ductile iron with a flanged end and attached via flexible coupling to the existing pipe. The contractor shall provide all necessary hardware and gaskets to make the connections. All piping and other fittings will be raised and lowered using the two ton crane in the pumphouse, care shall be taken to not overload the crane.
