About this file

This file is a Questions and Answers document addressing technical specifications for a vertical turbine pump procurement.

The document clarifies five key requirements for the pump system: the vertical intake strainer on the inlet is positioned 45 feet below the centerline of the horizontal pump discharge flange; an intake strainer is required on the bowl intake side; the specified 70 feet represents static head with negligible dynamic head, connecting to a 12-inch discharge pipe; a new control panel is not required; and general-purpose single speed motors are sufficient, with inverter duty rating not necessary. These answers establish baseline technical parameters and eliminate unnecessary specifications to guide contractor proposals.

Questions and answers

1. Total pump length

• The bottom of the vertical intake strainer on the inlet is 45’ below the centerline of the flange for the horizontal pump discharge

2. If a pump strainer is required on the bowl

• Intake strainer is required on the bowl intake side

3. Is 70' the static head or total dynamic head?

• 70’ is the static head, dynamic head is negligible, connects to 12” discharge pipe a few feet of pipe past the outlet

4. Is a new control panel required?

• We do not need a new control panel

5. Do the motors need to be inverter duty rated?

• A general-purpose single speed motor is sufficient for our needs, inverter duty rating is not required
