Provide a total of four (4) pass- through antennas for each of the two fish ladders (total of eight [8] antennas) to optimize coverage, unless recommended otherwise (reference Attachment C). Each antenna will be shielded with ferrite tile or other appropriate shielding as necessary to minimize interference from metal rebar in surrounding concrete. The north fish ladder will have PIT antennas installed similar to previous PIT antennas as shown in Attachment C. The south fish ladder will have PIT antennas installed similar to previous PIT antennas as shown in Attachment C. A steel grating on the south fish ladder (reference Attachment C) may have to be replaced with fiberglass reinforced plastic to avoid/minimize interference with the detection field (to be determined during site visit with Contractor). The exact number and location of antennas for this contract requirement are to be determined by the contractor after post award site visit.
9.1.2 Spillway PIT Antenna
Provide pass-over PIT antennas on the downstream side of the spillway behind the overflow curtain. A total of fifteen (15) pass over antennas were previously installed and removed (reference Attachment C). Each antenna will be shielded with ferrite tile or other appropriate shielding as necessary to minimize interference from metal rebar in surrounding concrete. Install antennas such that water and fish can pass over the PIT detection field without direct contact with the antennas. The exact number and location of antennas for this contract requirement are to be determined by the contractor after post award site visit.
9.1.3 V-Screen Diversion Bypass- Juvenile Fish Bypass Pipe PIT Antennas
Provide two pass-through PIT antennas at the bypass pipe. The antennas may be attached around the outside of the pipe, similar to the previous PIT antenna installation (reference Attachment C). 9.3 Anticipated Design Flows
Design PIT interrogation system with the following flood frequency table in consideration. Additional curve data for the South Santiam River is provided in Attachment D.
Average Return Interval Discharge (cfs)
(years) Natural Regulated
10 65,500 23,700
50 91,100 35,400
100 103,000 44,000
500 132,000 76,000
9.4 Durability
Design and install each PIT antenna in a way to minimize interference from metals, such as rebar in concrete on the dam. Appropriate shielding (e.g., with ferrite tiles or similar material) may be required to avoid any such interference depending on location (that is, determine necessary shielding during design and installation of the antennas). Fabricate antennas and associated equipment (e.g., power and data cables, PIT tag readers, etc.) to last for approximately five (5) to ten (10) years or longer, withstand high river flows, flood events, and potential impact from floating debris (e.g., small tree branches, logs). Antennas must be made of durable weather resistant aluminum or thermoplastic or similar weather resistant material for longevity.
