1. Introduction The PEWE OWS systems are used for the removal of fine suspended oily material from aqueous solutions. OWS systems are used on process and waste water streams for oil particles that freely float and can be collected on the surface of the liquid in the vessel.

The OWS can be used for the removal of oils for both municipal and industrial applications.

The OWS maximizes FOG removal while minimizing chemistry and utility usage. The OWS floats the material to be removed by providing for the maximum effective separation area in the form of coalescing plastic media which oil droplets come into contact with as they traverse the vessel. The contact of oil with the media accumulates them and increases their size. This results in increased oil buoyancy. The collected oil is then drained into a collection basin

Generally, chemical pre-treatment is not required for removal of most “free” oils.

However chemistry may be found in some instances to assist collection of the oil droplets. The addition of chemical(s) may also increase agglomeration of the droplets.

FOG removal results are as high as 99%.

2. Operation The OWS influent stream is fed to the interior chamber. The water travels across the length of the vessel through the media pack separation area while the oil rises to the surface. The surface oil is drained via a weir into a collection basin. Clarified effluent then flows out of the vessel into the clearwell. Then the water exits the unit via a gravity overflow flanged port. Any solids which fall to the bottom of the OWS may be drain via a sump port.

3. Manufacturer The drawings and specifications covered by this Section are based on the mechanical equipment manufactured by Process Engineered Water Equipment (PEWE). Should equipment which differs from these Specifications be offered and determined to be the approved equal of that specified, such equipment will be acceptable only on the basis that any revision in the design and/or construction of the structures, piping, appurtenant equipment, electrical work, etc. required to accommodate such a substitution shall be made at no additional cost to the Owner and be as approved by the Engineer.

The manufacturer of preference shall be:

The OWS system will be designed and fabricated per the following specifications containing the following features.

4. Features

a) Float and Separation Vessel

The oil float and separation vessel provides an effective separation area consisting of multiple media packs which will maximize flow and oil solids throughput.

The process or wastewater to be treated enters the vessel through a single flanged inlet. The float and separation chamber includes the floatable oil collection basin with adjustable water weir, float baffle, water baffle, settle-able solids port(s) and clean water effluent well.

b) Separation Media Pack Assembly The media pack assembly is constructed of 1 cubic foot polypropylene blocks stacked tightly within the separation chamber. Each block has a separation capacity of up to five (5) gallons per minute of flow. The number of blocks determines the total throughput capacity of the system.

c) Floatable Collection Basin

The oil float is collected at the surface of the unit. The oil float will be drained into a basin via an adjustable weir. The collection basin is provided to allow for temporary float storage. The basin can be periodically emptied through a port provided for that purpose.

d) Effluent Clearwell The water flow and oil float run into the float baffles of the tank. The oil float is directed to the collection basin while the water is directed out of the separation chamber. The clean water accumulates in the clearwell before discharge.

e) Bottom Solids Port(s)

A collection area is located under the separation chamber to provide temporary storage of any settle-able solids. This may be periodically drained via a port(s).

f) Integrated Pipe Flocculator (optional) The OWS can be provided with an integrated pipe flocculator that is designed to optimize chemical mixing with the process and wastewater prior to entering the vessel. The pipe flocculator consists of multiple rungs each providing a

sample/chemical injection port at each turn. The flocculator is constructed of SCH 80 PVC with stainless steel sample and chemical injection ports.

g) Controls (optional)

The panel may be mounted and wired to the OWS tank for convenient operation and ease of installation.

Enclosure:

NEMA 4, FRP panel box c/w hinged door.

Fused main disconnect;

Control power selector switch (illuminated on) On/Off push buttons (illuminated green-on) Motor starter

Pump Control Switch Variable speed motor controls for flight skimmer

Emergency stop

Field Device(s):

Magnetic insertion flow meter Chemical dosing system TSS sensor pH sensor

Other options can be integrated for control of the OWS system and associated ancillary devices into this panel for centralized control by the factory prior to shipping.

5. Materials of Construction

a) Stainless Steel

The tank, baffles, and internal and external structural members shall be constructed of 304 stainless steel. Other materials of construction are available as optional items.

b) Coating

The stainless steel shall be glass beaded for a smooth uniform surface finish and will remain unpainted.

c) Piping Connections

Connection for the inlet and outlet shall be 304 stainless steel stub ends with 150 lb.

ANSI flanges.

6. Warranty

PEWE warrants all products supplied hereunder to conform to the specifications therefore and to be free of defects in material for a period of the lesser of (I) ten (10) years from date of purchase on the vessel material; and (II) twelve (12) months from the date of system start-up (defined as the day effluent flow is pumped to the OWS system or (llI) eighteen (18) months from the date of shipment to the buyer, all replacement parts are FOB factory, provided all equipment is installed, operated and maintained in accordance with Operating, Maintenance and Installation instructions furnished by

PEWE.

This warranty shall not apply to any product or parts thereof which, as a result of the following have resulted in a failure of the product:

1. Equipment that has been improperly repaired or altered by the Buyer or third parties acting for its behalf;

2. Equipment that has been subjected to misuse or negligence;

3. Or items which have a normal useful life of less than twelve (12) months; and

4. Certain components that may be used that have their own manufacturer’s warranties may exceed the PEWE warranty and that warranty shall take precedence.

If within such warranty period, indicated above, any products warranted hereunder are proven to PEWE’s reasonable satisfaction to be defective, such products will be repaired, or at PEWE’s option, replaced at no charge, FOB factory.

PEWE’s obligation hereunder is further conditioned upon PEWE’s receipt of written notice of any alleged defect within ten (10)-calendar days of its discovery and, at PEWE’s option, the return of the allegedly defective products to PEWE. Installation cost of the parts at site’s location will be at the Buyer’s expense.
