2. Products
2.1. Steel Pipe
Material shall conform to ASTM A252, Grade 3, and minimum yield strength is 45 KSI.
Contractor to provide (20) steel pipe piles that are 24-inch diameter, 1/2-inch wall thickness, and 80-foot long.
Piles shall be seamless or welded. The contractor has the option to deliver full length piles or may splice piles at delivery location. For on-site welding, any welding equipment shall be compatible with available power. Available power at T2 is 440V/220V/110V.
Piles shall be open-ended, and one end prepared (square cut) for attachment of a steel pile toe attachment.
2.2. Steel Pile Toe Attachments
All pile toe attachments shall be sized to fit on the specified steel pipe pile.
2.2.1 Conical tip attachment
Material shall conform to ASTM A148 or approved equivalent and minimum yield strength is 40
KSI.
Contractor to provide (16) pointed conical tips. Conical tips shall be similar to Associated Pile & Fitting Model P13006. Rounded conical tips shall not be permitted.
2.2.2 Open End Cutting Shoe
Material shall conform to ASTM A148 or approved equivalent and minimum yield strength is 40
Contractor to provide (14) cutting shoes. Cutting shoes shall be similar to Associated Pile & Fitting Model O-14001. Cutting shoes may be inside or outside flange mounted.
2.2.3 Rock crusher driving shoes
Material shall conform to ASTM A36 or approved equivalent, and minimum yield strength is 36
Contractor to provide (2) rock crusher driving shoes. Driving shoes shall be fabricated according to the following drawing:
2.3. Fabrication
Fabrication shall be in accordance with the applicable provisions of AISC 325. Pile splices shall include a backing ring and full penetration groove welds.
2.4. Coating
Piles and steel pile toe attachments shall be uncoated. If products come coated the coating does not need to be removed.
3. Execution
3.1. Welding
Welding shall be in accordance with AWS D1.1. Provide AWS D1.1 qualified welders and welding operators. Use E70XX low hydrogen electrodes.
Develop and submit the Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) for all welding, including welding done using prequalified procedures.
After welding is complete, notify contracting officer within (3) business days for inspection. All welds shall be 50% dye penetrant tested by the contractor and 100% of the welds visual inspected by the government. All testing shall be done in accordance with AWS D1.1.
Any welds that do not pass dye penetrant or visual inspection shall be repaired and retested at the contractor’s expense.
3.2 Storage
Provide and deliver cribbing to be used for material storage at the destination. Material shall be stored out of contact with the ground in such manner and location as will minimize deterioration.
Stack piles during delivery and storage so that each pile is maintained in a straight position and is supported every 10 feet or less along its length (ends inclusive) to prevent exceeding the maximum camber or sweep.
Do not stack piles more than 5 feet high.
3.3 Product Delivery
Notify the Contracting Officer 7 days prior to delivery. Government will inspect and accept product at time of delivery.
Contractor is required to transport the material to the destination. If delivery is by truck, the government will offload and stack the material. If delivery is by barge, the contractor is required to offload and stack the material.
