Once approved all designs shall become part of the contract specifications.

5.2 Defensive Positions repair. For the purpose of this Project, the Contractor shall assume “Repair by Replacement” and bid the project assuming all existing bastion materials from the 3 existing defensive positions are unusable and must be removed these from the site and all existing materials disposed off base and then construct 3 new bastion defensive positions on the site of each existing defensive position. The existing floor, columns and concrete roof will be reused after a Structural Engineer has verified the existing structure will support the weight and provide Engineering calculations to support his assertion. The Contractor shall also replace any sandbags covering the roofs of the concrete slab roofs. The Contractor shall repair three (3) defensive positions using wire (sand) and mesh rib lath and waterproof plaster. The Contractor shall also replace the modular baskets, liners, filling material, and accessories and sandbags on the roofs. The steel baskets shall be non-flammable and stable. The baskets shall have resistance to fungus and ultraviolet radiation, long life expectancy, and low maintenance. Baskets shall be fabricated with a minimum of 4 mm gauge coated steel wire. The basket opening shall be a minimum of 76 mm x 76 mm and a maximum of 102 mm x 102 mm width (0.62 m.) x length (0.62 m.) x height (1.10 m.). The dimensions of the repairs shall be as follows Length (13 modules) x width (8 modules) x height (4 modules). The corner coil shall be made of 3 mm to 4mm gauge coated hard steel. The Contractor shall fill each basket with uniform clean sand. The sand shall be manually compacted to avoid any voids. The sand shall be placed inside the basket at its optimum moisture content to reach the maximum density.

The contractor shall install the wire mesh rib lath 3/8’’on defense position walls. After that the plaster is placement over mesh. The plaster should be 1:3 dosed and have a waterproof additive. The Contractor shall use a locally available fill material consisting of a coarse graded sand that is well compacted.

Suitable fill material shall consist of coarse-grained sands: SW, SC, SP, and/or SF. The Contractor will select a suitable wall fill material that will meet the required physical properties to support the structure offered, and prevent damage to the defensive wall liner. Should the Contractor require any fill material from a different site to assemble defense system, the Contractor shall take fill material soil samples and/or perform other appropriate soil studies to determine suitability of said material. The Contractor is responsible for ensuring that the fill material used to fill any protective barrier / bastion associated with the structure meets all force protection requirements, and that the material does not include rocks or other inappropriate material that may cause injury or pose a safety risk to individuals or the barrier wall.
