Yesterday at the site visit for the Gravel Removal at Daguerre Dam, Doug indicated that the original drop (dump) site for the gravel would not be used, and identified a possible alternate location for the drop site as shown on the attached map.
Please confirm that the alternate drop site shown is acceptable.
Answer – please see the attached REVISED map for the new drop site.
1). What turbidity requirements are required? Silt curtains, etc.
Answer – since we’re removing gravel and not placing it, there are no turbidity requirements or silt curtains, etc.
2) What if the water elevations do not recede enough for access on August 1st?
Answer – if the flows do not get low enough, we’ll reevaluate at that time. As we discussed at the site visit, the contractor should be able to reach out into the river to pull some of the gravel back toward the put-in site to access the river. Then proceed on the island downstream to the removal site. Once at the site, the contractor will build a working platform with gravel from the site to allow a work surface.
3). If necessary, can haul roads be improved id width, trimming of branches, etc.
Answer – there should be no road improvements needs since we have selected an alternate drop/dump site. That site is very accessible.
4) Just to clarify, Doug stated at the Job Walk on the Pricing Schedule, the first item (0001) would be paid the entire amount and not adjusted for actual quantities removed and hauled. The second 2 items (0001AA and 0001AB) would be adjusted by percentage for the actual quantities removed and hauled. Is this correct? Or is it the opposite?
Answer – item 0001 is an informational item only. Item 0001AA (widen the channel to 45 feet from the face of the dam upstream and deepen to 5 feet measured from the crest of the dam) is to be paid the full price that is quoted and awarded. Item 0001AB is to be paid based upon the quantity of material loaded and hauled to the drop/dump site with a minimum of 10 cubic yards up to a maximum of 5,000 cubic yards. The bid will be based upon the full 5,000 cubic yards and, if less than that is hauled, the payment will be prorated.
Can or has the large Gravel Island Bars located in the center Yuba River adjacent to Daguerre Dam, be used for staging excavated materials for removal at the later dates (August 15 to Nov 1st) as indicated in the (PWS) Performance Work Statement?
Answer – a delayed loading and hauling of the removed material will only be authorized if the river flows are too high to allow for the trucks to access the loading site. Logistics of this will be discussed should the need arise at the time the work is done. This has only happened once in the many years we have been removing gravel at Daguerre Point Dam.
