Statement of Work
Install Singly Ply Membrane and Insulation on Roof of Bldg 52 &53 Part I – General Roofing
1.1 General: The contractor shall furnish and provide all labor, materials, equipment and professional supervision necessary to install new 4” rigid insulation and 40 mil single ply membrane over existing built up roofing. This work shall be performed at buildings 52 and 53.
1.1.1 Stated Objectives for Roofing System: The contractor shall then furnish and install a laminated, nominal 40 mil, single ply membrane roofing system that is non-ballasted and fabricated of a weft inserted low shrink, anti-wicking polyester fabric that has a thermoplastic coating (PVC).
The single ply membrane shall be prefabricated into various panel sizes with the largest size not exceeding 2,500 SF. Each panel shall have a factory dialectically (heat) welded 3-1/4” minimum mechanical securing tab formed at intervals not exceeding 60” o/c. Mechanical anchors (screws) and distribution plates shall be used in the field areas to fasten the tabs into place meeting a minimum wind-uplift requirement of 90 psi. Full perimeter termination bar strips fasten to buildings outside edge with lag screws shall be installed to secure membrane’s outer edge. Contractor shall replace all existing gutters and downspouts with new and provide new gutters and downspouts over any door opening on the downhill slope side of the roofs where they are lacking now. Gutters run the circumference of the building with downspouts every 20 feet. Gutters and downspouts shall be24 gauge galvanized commercial grade. Other mechanical methods for anchoring the roof material into place will be considered if the satisfy the90 psi wind lift requirements. The thermoplastic coated membrane shall be recognized and categorized by the National Roofing Contractors Association as vinyl chloride polymer based materials combined with other substances (i.e. Bond Coat) and not an acceptable substitute.
Rigid insulation shall be placed under the singly ply membrane.
1.1.2 Stated Objective for Repairs: Approximately 16,980 SF of roof area each. Some removal of underlayment layers, which include asbestos silver painted tarpaper (refer to Safety 1.11), may be required. Wherever possible, the underlayment layers shall be returned to its original thickness for re-use. Those areas that do not have underpayment layers dues to excessive damage may not be required to be rebuilt. However, they may be repaired or filled in if it is necessary to maintain integrity of the new roof elements.
1.1.3 General Requirements:
1.1.3.1 Roofing Assembly Approval: The membrane and related items shall be approved by Factory Mutual research as a 1-90 roofing assembly.
1.1.3.2 Additional Weight Requirements: The total weight of the installed roofing system including all insulation, plates, screws and membrane shall not exceed 50 pounds per square. Each square is
