FY13 Generator and Switchgear Q & A

1 July 2013

Question 1:

Paragraph 8 - Caterpillar Engine Specifications: In item 8.a.2, a 60 Hz, 1800rpm Radiator Cooled engine is referenced which contradicts section 8.d Cooling System which calls out Heat Exchanger Cooled (no mention of radiator). In addition, the photos of the current generators appear to be heat exchanger cooled engines. Can you please provide confirmation/clarification on type of cooling system required for Caterpillar C4.4 engine?

Answer 1: A heat Exchanger is required for Caterpillar C4.4 engine.

Question 2:

If heat exchanger cooled engine is required, this also effects the rating on the unit 72ekW (for radiator cooled) vs. 75ekW (for US EPA Tier 3, heat exchanger cooled) or 76ekW (for US EPA Tier 2, heat exchanger cooled). This is not a huge difference but we should be clear on the output to verify cable size, breaker size, etc.

Answer 2: The output is 76KW.

Question 3:

Based on the answer from question one, would an extension be granted for proposals to give additional time to verify that requested switchgear and breakers are suitable for use with 75ekW (US EPA Tier 3 rating) or 76ekW (US EPA Tier 2 rating) generator set package.

Answer 3: Reference amendment 0003.
