Certified Final Document Volume 2H – Geotechnical Baseline Report, Appendix H April 2013

Appendix H

Grouted Void Data

Exploratory Borings and Grouting, 1957 Emergency Repair: Basic information reported in the 1957 Emergency Repair Report is included in this section. A series of exploratory holes were drilled to ascertain the location of the suspected void as well as the location of the seepage path.

Generally, these borings do not have boring logs; however, the logs from selected exploratory holes are part of the Q-Series of boring logs. This table notes the relative location of each boring (station and offset), the top of the boring, the top of rock, and the bottom of the boring. The number of bags of grout used during grouting is also noted. This information was extracted from the 1957 Emergency Repair Report. These borings are shown on As-Built Drawing 038b-U1- 10/30 along with the number of bags of grout used to fill each boring. Reference GBR drawing 038b-U1-10/113 which highlights borings with high grout takes during the 1957 repair.

Consolidation Grouting: As part of the 1957 Repair, consolidation grouting was performed between Stations 7+90 and 8+70. Consolidation Grouting was generally performed on five foot spacing in this section, between 25 foot upstream and 25 ft downstream. Consolidation grouting is shown on As-Built Drawing 038b-U1-40/59. Basic information extracted from the 1957 Emergency Repair Report is tabulated including the relative location of each boring (station and offset), the top of the boring, the bottom of the boring, and the number of bags of grout used during consolidation grouting is also noted for each boring. The top of rock was not encountered in any of the consolidation borings. Reference GBR drawing 038b-U1-10/113 which highlights borings with high grout takes during the 1957 repair.

Grouted Void Dimensions: As-Built Drawing 038b-U1-40/63 shows the interpretation of the geometry of the grouted void in plan, profile, and cross section views. Reference GBR drawings 038b-U1-10/113-115, as shown in Appendix B, for additional information.

Grout Core Tests: Seven core samples were extracted from Borings E-24 and E-25 during the 2009 Geotechnical Exploration. Samples were subjected to unconfined compressive strength testing. The results of these tests are tabulated.
