Certified Final Document Volume 2F – Geotechnical Baseline Report, Appendix F April 2013
Appendix F
Discontinuity Data
Fracture Logs: Fracture logs from the 2009 Geotechnical Data Report for Subsurface Exploration and 3D Model Development. Fracture logs are included for piezometers 08-EBD-71 through 08- EBD-74 and 08-EBD-78A.
Borehole Imaging: Down hole camera borehole images were performed during the 2011 and 2012 Explorations. Two holes (E-29 and E-30) were imaged and presented in the 2011 Geotechnical Exploration and Phase II Environmental Site Investigation Summary Report.
Image logs from this report include the image in the first column, projection of the fracture as a sine wave in the center column, and a representation of the dip and dip direction in the last column.
All holes (E-39 through E-47 and E-50 through E-59) were imaged during the 2012 exploration.
The image log from the 2012 Geotechnical Data Report includes basic hole data including hole location and inclination, as well as depth and rock description in the first column, RQD and recovery in the second column, the image with fracture sine waves in the next column, pressure test results, dip, dip direction and aperture in the last columns.
Fracture Tables: Tables of raw fracture data retrieved from the borehole images from the 2011 Geotechnical Exploration and Phase II Environmental Site Investigation Summary Report and 2012 Geotechnical Data Report are provided. Tables are provided by boring and include depth, dip, dip direction, and aperture. On 27 Oct. 2010, joint measurements were taken by an LRP Geologist on outcrops above the outlet tunnel and the upstream end of the spillway weir crest. A table is provided of the measured data including elevation, strike, dip, and general rock description.
Stereonets: Stereonets for all of the imaged holes and outcrop measurements listed are provided.
A stereonet was created for each of the imaged holes, as well as, six stereonets for the different areas of the dam; right abutment, valley, left abutment, spillway section dogleg, outlet tunnel outcrop, and spillway outcrop.
Discontinuity Spacing: Figures depicting fracture spacing were developed based on borehole image results from borings E-29, E-30, E-39 through E-47, and E-50-E-59. A scatterplot was developed for each borehole depicting the discontinuity spacing profile. The distance between discontinuities was plotted at the elevation corresponding to the lower discontinuity. This data includes all discontinuities identified in through the borehole image process, including zero aperture fractures and bedding planes.
Discontinuity Spacing Table: From the Discontinuity Spacing Plots, fractures larger than 3 ft were tabulated for all boreholes. Tabulation for each boring includes the depth and elevation of the discontinuity, the discontinuity spacing, and aperture. Those discontinuities with a spacing in excess of 10 ft are highlighted in the table.
