PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 Description of Work

The general description of the work is to furnish all equipment, labor, layout of work, and supervision to construct the following:

Montgomery Locks and Dam. The location of Montgomery Locks and Dam is shown on attached "Transportation Route to Montgomery Locks and Dam" which gives directions from downtown Pittsburgh, PA.

Replace Membrane Roof on Middle Wall Operations Building The existing building roof consists of ballasted EPDM membrane and urethane board insulation over a previous built-up roof which probably still exists. The roof deck consists of tapered sawdust concrete fill over cast-in-place concrete. EPDM membrane is present on the inner sides of the parapet and extends approximately twelve inches up the sides of the parapet and is terminated using a metal sealing strip screwed to the parapet.

Work on the building roof consists of removing existing ballast, EPDM membrane, insulation and built-up roofing. Install new mechanically fastened polyisocyanurate board insulation, roof drains, and modified bitumen roofing with walking pad from the upstream side to the antenna. The new roof membrane shall be extended up the inner side of the parapet and secured with mechanical fasteners as well as cold-applied adhesive. New flashing shall be installed on all pipe vents and protrusions from the roof surface. Tapered insulation shall be used to provide a minimum roof slope of 1/4 inch per foot.

Replace Membrane Roof on Land Wall Service Building The roof consists of an adhered EPDM membrane on mechanically fastened tapered insulation. The deck consists of 1-1/2" galvanized steel decking on steel joist. The work consists of removing the roof membrane, insulation, and flashing. The new roof shall be mechanically fastened composite polyisocyanurate board insulation, modified bitumen roof with walking pad to roof antennas & exhaust fan, new aluminum gravel stop and fascia. New flashing shall be installed on all pipe vents and protrusions from the roof surface. Existing roof drains can be reused. Tapered insulation shall be used to provide a minimum roof slope of 1/4 inch per foot.

Replace Deck Coating on Observation Deck and Stairs of Land Wall Service Building The observation deck consisted of tapered concrete topping on precast, pre-stressed hollow core concrete units. The present deck coating is 63-300, White Elastomeric Roof Coating, manufactured by Kool Seal Incorporated. The work consists of removing existing coating from the deck, the walls under the flashing, and stairs. Install new urethane-based, cold-liquid-applied elastomeric waterproofing membrane with

SECTION 01 30 00.10 Page 2 integral wearing surface to the deck, walls, stairs, and installing new wall flashing. The work is to be performed by a manufacturer-approved installer. A silicone-based liquid water repelling coating shall be applied to the inner face and top of the parapet wall. Minor repointing and concrete repairs to the parapet may be required prior to installation of the waterproofing membrane and water repelling coating.

Replace Membrane Roof on Control Shelters Nos.1, 2 & 4 The existing roof is an adhered EPDM membrane with 1-1/2" rigid board insulation. The roof deck consists of a cast concrete deck sloped to drain to one (1) 1-1/2" roof drain. The work consists of removing existing roof membrane, gravel stops and fascia, and roof drain. Install new mechanically fastened composition board/polyisocyanurate board insulation, modified bitumen roof, aluminum gravel stop/fascia, new drain, drain pipe and trench drain as indicated on the attached sketch "Pike Island L/D, New Cumberland L/D & Montgomery L/D Control Shelters Roof and Trench Drain Plan". Tapered insulation shall be used to provide a minimum roof slope of 1/4 inch per foot.

Replace Membrane Roof on Locker Room Building The existing roof is an adhered ballasted EPDM membrane and urethane board insulation, with aluminum gravel stop, and exterior roof drains. The roof deck consists of a plywood deck on wood roof trusses. The work consists of removing existing fascia/drains, water dam, roof membrane, and insulation. Install new mechanically fastened taper composition polyisocyanurate board insulation, modified bitumen roofing, aluminum gravel stop, and fascia/drains. Replace Membrane Roof on Middle Wall Operation Building The existing roof is a ballasted EPDM membrane with urethane board insulation. The roof deck consists of precast, pre-stressed hollow core concrete unit with a light weight concrete topped.

The work consists of removing the gravel ballast, roof membrane, insulation, and flashing. In addition, the exhaust hood and silencer filter shall be removed and the roof openings blocked with wood and patched. The new roof shall be mechanically fastened composite board/polyisocyanurate board insulation, modified bitumen roof with walking pad to roof antennas, new roof drains, and replacement thru-wall flashing.

There are two (2) second floor office bay windows that have been covered with EPDM membrane. The roof was originally a ribbed steel deck with 2 inches of foam insulation board, covered by built up roofing. The roof has been covered with EPDM membrane.
