About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document addressing inquiries regarding a control system replacement project for a Service Pistol training facility.

The solicitation scope is limited to replacing an obsolete control system with modern Programmable Logical Controllers (PLCs) utilizing proprietary sole-sourced software developed to support the Service Pistol team's mission requirements. The existing targets will remain in place as they currently meet all training requirements and will not be replaced. The new control system will be a complete fabrication connecting to targets through two 2-inch PVC pipes with existing wiring infrastructure already in place, replacing the current telephone signal and modem-based actuation system. No photographs of the existing control infrastructure are necessary for bid preparation, as the current system consists only of obsolete modular controls mounted to a wall inside a storage building with no internal control cabinet.

Question & Answers

Q1). The specifications note that just the control system is to be torn out and replaced. Is there any opportunity or consideration for replacing the controls and targets instead of just the controls?

A1). The current controls being used are obsolete and are being replaced with up-to-date Programmable Logical Controllers with a developed Sole Sourced proprietary software program to fit the needs of the Service Pistol’s team mission. Targets already in place are those that are needed to meet training requirements. Targets will not be replaced.

Q2). Are there photos available of the existing controls, specifically the control cabinet showing the parts inside, the remote controls, and any other infrastructure related to the target system that would be important to consider?

A2). Photos can be taken; However, they would serve no purpose in the make up of the Control System due to the fact it will be a complete fabrication from the start of the project.

The control system currently used is actuated through a telephone signal and modem. The new system will only attach to the targets through two 2” PVC pipes with wiring already in place. There is no control cabinet inside to take pictures of….only obsolete modular controls mounted to the wall inside a storage building.
