Attachment #1 – 6395 Boiler and Pump Specifications
Boiler - The boiler specifications include the following with an example being the Thermal Solutions Apex condensing boiler APX-525C:
a. Meet the Buy America Act clause of the umbrella contract.
b. Boiler shall have a minimum efficiency of 97% and be low NOx (<25ppm).
c. The boiler shall be factory assembled & packaged as a complete unit. Packaged unit shall be complete with jacket, gas manifold, burner, and controls mounted and wired. The boiler shall be factory fire tested prior to shipment.
d. The boiler shall be constructed in conformance to ASME Section IV. The boiler shall bear the ASME “H” stamp and be listed for 160 psi MAWP and maximum temperature of 210°F. The gas train and safety controls shall conform to requirements of ASME CSD-1.
e. Boiler shall have direct spark ignition and air proving switch.
f. The boiler shall be provided with a steel jacket. Jacket shall contain an internal space for electrical circuitry and be separated from combustion air gas.
g. Pressure vessel shall be constructed of 316L stainless steel and be of a water tube design.
h. Boiler shall have a 10 year heat exchanger warranty.
i. The burner shall be an integral pre-mix, metal-type forced draft burner with 5:1 turndown (full modulation).
j. The boiler gas valve shall be zero pressure regulation and be equipped with a variable speed blower system to precisely control the fuel/air mixture.
k. The Boiler Control System shall provide safety interlocks and water temperature control. The control system shall be fully integrated into the boiler control cabinet.
l. Using PID (proportional-integral-derivative) based control, the remote system water temperature shall be compared with a set point to establish a target boiler firing rate. If the secondary loop flow speed is greater than the primary loop flow speed, firing rate is increased in response to the decrease in secondary loop temperature. When the remote system temperature is near the boiler high limit temperature, the boiler supply sensor shall limit the maximum boiler supply temperature to prevent boiler high limit events. Alternately, using parameter menu selections, the control system shall allow the boiler to respond directly to boiler supply temperature and set point to establish a target boiler firing rate while remote system water temperature is used for display purposes only. The boiler’s fuel flow control valve shall be mechanically linked to the air flow control device to assure an air rich fuel/air ratio. All the automated logic required to ensure pre-purge, post-purge, light-off, and burner modulation shall be provided.
m. When the controller is in the local control mode, the control system shall establish the set point based on outside air temperature and a reset function curve, or be manually adjusted by the operator.
n. A touch screen message display shall be provided to display real time BTU/hr., startup and shutdown sequence status, alarm, system diagnostics, messages, etc. Historical information shall include graphical trends, lockout history, and boiler & circulator cycle counts and run time hours.
o. Boiler operation shall not be lost due to corrupt or loss of EMS/EMCS communication. The boiler control system shall allow boiler limits, lockout, boiler and system temperatures, and firing rate status to be readable; and water set point, boiler firing rate, and start/stop command to be readable and writable. The boiler control system shall network with a communication gateway to connect with LonWorks.
p. The boiler control system shall be supplied as part of a factory assembled and tested burner control cabinet.
Pump - The pump specifications include the following with an example being the Thermal Solutions Eco Propel Pump Kit:
a. Pump shall be sized to match boiler flow and temperature requirements.
b. Pump shall have a variable speed kit (ECM type variable speed pump).
c. Pump shall integrate with boiler firing rate and shall continuously adjust speed to maintain a constant ΔT (adjustable) as the boiler firing rate is modulated. In addition to pump automatic speed adjustments, a manual mode shall allow the user to manually adjust the pump speed.
d. Pump speed shall be forced to full flow in the event of control communication loss. Loss of pump control shall not result in loss of boiler operation.
e. Pump shall be set such that the pump speed cannot be less than the boiler’s minimum flow requirements at any given ΔT. Pump shall be set such that the pump speed cannot be more than the boiler’s maximum flow requirements at any given ΔT.
Attachment #1 – 9134 Boiler, Pump, and Expansion Tank Specifications
Boiler - The boiler specifications include the following with an example being the Laars NeoTherm NTH- 285 condensing boiler:
