ARCIC Live Experimentation (ALE) Venues

Venue: Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) Lead: Maneuver Center of Excellence

The AEWE Campaign of Experimentation is TRADOC's annual live, prototype Soldier and small unit experiment. The AEWE Campaign is an essential component in the Force 2025 Maneuvers effort to iterate prototype development for the future force. The Force 2025 Maneuvers effort drives experiment objectives clearly linking it to senior leader priorities within the Army Campaign of Learning, modernization Cross Functional Teams, and the TRADOC governance venues. AEWE pursues solutions for small unit situational understanding, sustainment, mission command, lethality, and protection.

AEWE, typically executed in the October-March timeframe, consists of live fire, non-network assessment, and force-on force phases. AEWE examines technologies from several sources including RDECOM labs, DARPA, Program Executive Offices, and industry to address capability gaps and advance small unit concepts. DARPA and RDECOM provide technologies from government science and technology initiatives for early evaluation. Outcomes inform the Army investment portfolios and technology transitions. Program Executive Offices use AEWE as an opportunity to accelerate programs of record or for risk mitigation prior to formal testing. Industry provides technologies at their own expense to demonstrate potential solutions to military problems and shape their internal research and development.

The next technology call containing more detailed information regarding the types of technologies being sought for possible participation in AEWE 2021 is tentatively scheduled to be released in September 2019. As a matter of practice, AEWE planners post technology calls as broad area announcements (BAA) on the Federal Business Opportunities website (FBO / www.fbo.gov).

Venue: Maneuver Fires Integration Experiment (MFIX) Lead: Fires Center of Excellence

The Maneuver and Fires Integration Experiment (MFIX) is the Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE) premier venue to assess the ability of brigades, battalions and companies to use emerging capabilities to provide Air Defense, Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS), and precision fires for the supported force. MFIX is supported by military and industry partners, and is the Fires Community’s live, prototype force on force experimentation campaign to inform Future Fires requirement and the DOTMLPF-P process. MFIX identifies potential solutions to mitigate capability gaps and demonstrate potential solutions to the Army Warfighting Challenges that set conditions for the Campaign of Learning (CoL) objectives. MFIX also supports the Long Range Precision Fires (LRPF) and Air and Missile Defense (AWD) Cross Functional Teams.

Innovation is critical, both for the operational and the institutional Army, and MFIX is a start point for the innovation we need to ensure that our Soldiers, Leaders, and teams are prepared to win in a complex world. MFIX develops, evaluates, and validates integrated concepts and material capabilities to inform how Fires enhances tactical operations below the Brigade Combat Team. MFIX also facilitates technology risk reduction and maturation. The goal is to retain current overmatch advantages over adversaries and accelerate investments on contested future capabilities in support of Force 2025 Maneuver and beyond. MFIX ranges are equipped to handle Laser Weapon Systems, Electronic Attack, Artillery, Mortar, Electromagnetic Launch/Railgun, High Powered Microwave, and other emergent technologies.

The next technology call containing more detailed information regarding the types of technologies being sought for possible participation in MFIX ‘21 is tentatively scheduled to be released August 2019.

Venue: Cyber Quest Lead: Cyber Center of Excellence

Cyber Network & Electromagnetic Integration Experiments (Cyber Quest) is a Cyberspace Operations, Signal, and Electronic Warfare Prototyping Experiment conducted annually at Fort Gordon, GA, to assess emerging technologies against associated Army capability requirements. This assessment informs current capability development efforts by validating concepts, and determining doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities (DOTMLPF) impacts for those concepts under evaluation. Cyber Quest also serves as a venue to inform rapid acquisition capability requirements, and support technical risk mitigation.

Army acquisition and capability development proponents leverage Cyber Quest outcomes to validate selected candidate solutions for future participation in other Army/Joint exercises and experiments (i.e. Cyber Blitz, Army Capabilities Integration Center (ARCIC) Live Prototype Assessments (ALPA), Army/Joint Warfighting Assessments (AWA/JWA), the Joint Users Interoperability Communications Exercise (JUICE), etc.).

The next technology call containing more detailed information regarding the types of technologies being sought for possible participation in Cyber Quest 2020 is tentatively scheduled to be released in May 2019.

Venue: Maneuver Support, Sustainment, and Protection Integration Experiment

(MSSPIX)

Co-Leads: Maneuver Support & Sustainment Centers of Excellence

The Maneuver Support, Sustainment, and Protection Integration Experiment (MSSPIX) is a Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) and Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE) co-led event to conduct physical integration, demonstrations, assessments, and evaluations of construction, protection and sustainment technologies in an operationally relevant environment. The objective is to identify potential technologies/capabilities for further development in support of Army requirements and future acquisition decisions. MSSPIX events include participation from US Army research and technology laboratory partners and are conducted at either Fort Leonard Wood, MO or Fort Lee, VA and provide a learning venue to better understand military problems and their potential solutions through experimentation with unique and innovative technology proposals to shape the Army’s research and development priorities and inform requirements documents development.

The next technology call containing more detailed information regarding the types of technologies being sought for possible participation in MSSPIX 2020 is tentatively scheduled to be released in November 2018. As a matter of practice, MSSPIX planners post technology calls as broad area announcements (BAA) on the Federal Business Opportunities website (FBO / www.fbo.gov).
