Trooper Dr., Caisson, Dickman, & MAAF Runway “Questions and Notes from Industry” As of 31 March 2017

Questions:

1. Will Fort Riley make available a parcel of property suitable for a portable asphalt plant facility?

At least 6 acres of level ground?

Answer: DPW will provide a suitable location for a portable asphalt plant on Camp Funston after contract award. Area may or may not be 6 acres.

2. At Marshall Army Airfield, can crack sealing operations be performed during daylight hours? We need to be able to spot the cracks while filling to effectively locate all areas needing attention.

Answer: An amendment to the allowable work hours for MAAF will be issued.

3. On Caisson Hill, there are a series of manholes along the east shoulder, conflicting with the mill and overlay. Any special considerations with this area?

Answer: These areas shall require some hand placement of asphalt around the manholes.

Contractor shall match existing elevations.

4.a. On Caisson Hill Drive, please define the limits of the shoulder mill and pave. There are areas wider than 8 ½ feet. Are we to measure 8 ½ feet from the outside of the white edge line, and remove and replace?

Answer: From the outside of the white edge line of the pavement markings to the outside edge of the pavement shoulder, mill and overlay shall be 8 ½ feet. Shoulders wider than 8 ½ feet from the outside edge line of the pavement markings are not part of the overlay. Shoulders less than 8 ½ feet from the outside edge of the pavement markings shall be milled and overlayed to the existing width.

4.b. Are we to remove and dispose of excess width?

Answer: No, leave in place.

5. Do you know the current thickness of the asphalt shoulders on Caisson Hill?

Answer: No

6. On trooper and Caisson, will Fort Riley make available enough asphalt millings from the milling operation to supplement the asphalt mix being produced for the project. We use 25% RAP in a commercial Grade Class A Mix, so we would need appx 4500 tons of millings.

Answer: Yes.

7. On Dickman, there appears to be a possible utility conflict with the new sidewalk. Will there be enough room for the sidewalk past the utility trunk adjacent to Holbrook?

Answer: An amendment to the plans will be issued.

8. On trooper Drive, could you please elaborate on how you came up with the 19250 sy of 8” asphalt?

Answer: No, estimated quantities are based on approximate measured areas requiring full depth patch.

9. Will the attached commercial grade class A mix design be acceptable for the project.

Trooper Dr., Caisson, Dickman, & MAAF Runway “Questions and Notes from Industry”

Answer: Submittals for Class A mix design shall be submitted for review and approval after contract award. KDOT Standard Specification 611 shall dictate contractor mix design.
