About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation for a vacuum probe station system. The solicitation seeks one system with six parametric probes capable of measurements up to 10 GHz, including four triaxial parametric probes and two triaxial DC probes or parametric probes. The system must have a stage allowing at least 25mm of travel in both the x and y directions to accommodate devices located across 50mm diameter samples. Probe tip and sample requirements are also specified. The related federal contract opportunity is a small business set-aside issued by the Department of the Army Materiel Command Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground for the vacuum probe station system.

Questions and Answers W911QX23Q0201
1. Question: Is 10GHz necessary or will DC to 100MHz sufficient?
Answer: The system should have sufficient shielding and the correct cabling to be able to perform 10 GHz RF measurements, if necessary, but do not need to provide the probes to achieve up to 10 GHz “out of the box.” If the vendor is unable to achieve this performance metric with the appropriately shielded cabling and connector ratings, this will not automatically disqualify a bid assuming no other vendor can also meet this requirement.
1. Question: If 10GHz is needed, would the preferred configuration then be 4x triaxial DC probers and 2x RF probers?
Answer: The preferred configuration would be 6x triaxial parametric probes (typically dual-connectors on a probe arm for force-sense measurements, and bridge-type C-V measurements, sometimes also called quasi-Kelvin probes), but 4x triaxial parametric probes and 2x triaxial DC probes would also be suitable. No RF probes are required, but the system should be capable of accepting them if additional RF probers are purchased from the vendor in the future.
1. Question: What type of probe tip is needed? A single prober, dual, GSG, GSGSG, etc.?
Answer: For probe tips, 4x [parametric probes] + 2x [parametric probes OR DC probes] are required, so single probers would meet this requirement just fine.
1. Question: 25x25mm of sample movement is specified. on the 50x50mm samples, will there be multiple devices at the extreme edges of the sample, or will they be more centered?
Answer: We are using up to 50 mm diameter substrates, and we will need a minimum of 25 mm of travel distance in both the x-direction and y-direction of the stage being provided in this probe station. Under “Stage Control Hardware” in the salient characteristics, we are assuming the stage will have this ability to travel this distance. Probe arm movements are for small adjustments with respect to the device-under-test, and are not preferred as the method of traversing the sample, if possible. Most users will center devices the best they can, but due to the nature of some of the devices being fabricated, we are trying to cover as much ground as possible on a 50 mm diameter wafer.
