-- END OF PROPOSAL SCHEDULE --
2.2.6 Pipe Support System Anchor and Thrust Support
The Contractor shall submit design calculations as part of the Design Analysis, Design Drawings, and Specifications in accordance with Section 01 19 25.00 29, DESIGN REQUIREMENTS showing the adequacy of the pipe support system. The pipe support system shall be constructed from steel.
Supports shall be slotted to prevent the accumulation of liquid. The maximum spacing between pipe supports for straight runs shall be as recommended by the pipe and/or coupling manufacturer. No hangers or supports shall be suspended from top of removable manhole or utilidor lids.
Pipe support racks in accessible utilidor shall be designed to maximize clear passage. U-bolts or pipe straps shall be provided over rollers to prevent seismic displacement out of rollers. Pipe insluation shall have insulation shields under pipe straps or u-bolts. Insulation saddles or shoes shall be provided above rollers for insulated pipes. Where two support systems occur, stagger vertical supports to maximize passage width.
AM#7... Existing beam pipe supports can be reused if they are in very good condition, the contractor checks beams and connections, pipe bracing is designed and installed, and thermal movement is considered. When existing beams are utilized then adjacent vertical support racks can be installed to provide similar clearance to the existing beams. Other pipe support racks shall be installed to maximize passage width as noted above....AM#7
To avoid the highly corrosive environment near utilidor floors, pipe support systems shall be designed to avoid, whenever possible, columns supported by base plates attached to the floor.
Thrust blocks, anchors, hangers, inserts, and other supports shall be adequate to support the fully charged pipe in service.
Support for expansion joints must locate the blowdown on the bottom of the pipe and allow unimpeded blowdown operation.
Design for all pipe support systems, including sanitary sewer, shall include anchors for seismic loading.
For steam and condensate wall anchors, the bolts shall extend all the way through the wall. Anchors shall consist of welded steel plates, channels, and wide flange sections as required. Channel sections that extend between concrete walls with steel base plates bolted to the wall are acceptable.
Likewise channel sections extending between floor and ceiling in a manhole chamber, bolted in place with steel base plates, are acceptable.
All anchor bolts within 18 inches of utilidor floor shall be stainless steel.
Floor anchors shall be cast-in-place concrete.
2.2.7 Corrosion Protection
All steel shall be corrosion protected except as noted. Steel support system including columns, beams, and connector fittings shall be supplied by the manufacturer with hot-dip galvanizing, per ASTM A 123. Repair damaged hot-dipped galvanizing per ASTM A 780 with cold galvanizing compounds as manufactured by ZRC Products or approved equal.
AM#7... Inorganic zinc rich paint shall be applied to existing beams used for pipe supports where hot-dip galvanizing is not possible. Prepare surfaces and install per manufacturer installation instructions....AM#7
Shop fabricated steel shall be galvanized following SSPC-CS 23.00, Specification for the Application of Thermal Spray Coatings (Metallizing) of Aluminum, Zinc, Their Alloys, and Composites for the Corrosion Protection of Steel. Blast clean and profile surface to SSPC-SP10 prior to applying a 6 to 12 mil thickness of zinc. An exception is steel surfaces that will require attachments welded in the field shall not be galvanized or painted. Provide sufficient surface area for field welding attachments.
In addition, all steel supports and anchors within 18 inches of the utilidor floor shall be coated with 8 to 10 mils dry thickness of coal tar epoxy. Stainless steel, pipe rollers and pipe slides shall not be coated with coal tar epoxy coating. The coal tar epoxy coating shall be a self-priming, heavy duty, cold-applied, water resistant epoxy coating made from pitch derived from suitable tars, selected solvents, mineral fillers and special additives. The coal tar coating shall meet US Army Corps of Engineers C-200 polyamide-cured coal tar epoxy formulation. C-200(a) is not acceptable. Scratches and chips in the coating acquired during transport or installation shall be re-coated.
Prior to application of coal tar epoxy, non-galvanized steel surfaces shall be blast cleaned per SSPC-SP6.
Prior to coal tar epoxy application, thermal spray galvanized steel surfaces shall be cleaned of all grease and dirt per SSPC-SP1.
Prior to application of coal tar epoxy, hot dipped and factory galvanized steel surfaces shall be prepared under shop conditions in a two step process. First the surface is cleaned from all grease and dirt per SSPC-SP1. The second step is a wash primer treatment, ASTM D 6386, to neutralize surface oxides and hydroxides and etch the surface. For drying time prior to applying coal tar epoxy, follow the wash primer manufacturer's instructions. A typical wash primer is Heresite P-750 Wash Primer.
All stainless steel support systems shall be an acceptable alternative to the use of galvanizing and coal tar epoxy described above.
Primer and paint shall be suitable for the substrate (e.g. steel), and service temperature and high humidity found in the utilidor. Sheet metal shall be cleaned in accordance with SSPC SP 1 prior to painting. Apply paint in accordance with SSPC PA 1.
2.2.8 Insulation
Utilidor board insulation shall be of the rigid polystyrene type and shall conform to ASTM C 578. Minimum 60 pounds per square inch compressive strength per ASTM D 1621.
The Contractor may provide insulation per AKDOT 635 Insulation Board Specification.

7733953 Civil CX701 Comment Classification: Unclassified\\For Official Use Only (U\\FOUO)
On Exhibit Drawing CX701, drawing note #5 states, "The existing utilidor has covers that are not removable between the following stations". From the listed stationing, there is approx. 138 lf of utilidor lids that are removable. This matches up with bid item #0004's quantity of 140 lf.
So if 100% of the removable utilidor lids require replacement, this would be paid in the base bid under bid item #0004.
What then is the purpose of optional bid item #0009, which is for an additional 20% (140 lf) of lid replacement? Is it the intent that Bid item #9 would require the saw cutting and removable of non-removable lid areas and replacement with removable lids?
On: Nov 26 2018.
Government Response. . Yes the replacement of the removable lids will be covered in bid item 0004.
Base Item 0001 assumes no utilidor lids will need to be replaced. Agree, Option Item 0009 will be deleted, see amendment 0005. On: Dec 12 2018 Current Request Status: Request Closed
