RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS
Amendment 3 is to respond to Questions, post requested sampling plans, and make correction within PWS.
Section 3.4.3.3 States – “The sampling shall begin by measuring depth to water and depth of well within each well. From this data, the contractor shall calculate the volume of three casing volumes and purge the wells of this volume so as to remove stagnant water within the casing and gravel pack.”
Q3 – Can you please provide monitoring well construction details, including well diameter, total depth, approximate depth to water, screen interval, etc.? This will help us determine the amount of purge water generated and the time needed to sample each location.
A3. See attached Well Gauging Data. (attachment 1)
Section 3.4.3.3 States – “The contractor shall commence sampling within 24 hours, collecting the samples consistent with Table 3 of each Sampling Plan. The contractor shall collect samples in the order of greatest to least volatility as specified in section 3.6.3 of each sampling plan.”
Q4.– Can you please provide Table 3 of each sampling plan and section 3.6.3 of each sampling plan?
A4. ‐ Table 3 and section 3.6.3 are included in each sampling plan. (See attachments 2 ‐3)
Section 3.4.3.5 – States “Laboratories shall be required to meet the Maryland practical quantization limits (PQLs) for each of the analysts as shown in Appendix A of each sampling plan.”
Q5 – Can you please provide Appendix A of each sampling plan? This will ensure that our selected laboratory can meet the Maryland PQL requirements.
A5 ‐ Appendix A is included with each sampling plan. (See attachments 2 ‐3)
Section 3.4.3.5 States – “All equipment that contacts the well water shall be decontaminated before being place into the next well IAW the Sampling Plans. The contractor shall collected decontamination water, ensure that pH is neutralized to pH 5.0‐8.0, and discharge it to the sanitary sewer.”
Q6– It is understood that decontamination wash water can be disposed of into the sanitary sewer pending pH neutralization. Can monitoring well purge water be disposed of in the sanitary sewer, or does it need to be containerized and characterized prior to disposal?
A6. ‐ Monitoring well purge water can be disposed into the sanitary sewer.
