NEC-DA Fiber Optic Cabling Questions and Answers
Q: Are there any site drawings available for the subject solicitation that we could use to get distances and a better understanding of the paths the fiber would run.
A: Provided, see the 2 attachments (Building 1 Floorplan, Building 2 Floorplan).
Q: What’s the make/model of the existing fiber patch panel in building 270? Can we get a picture of that patch panel? Does it have the capacity for 24 new SC connections?
A: Make is Corning, Model is Corning Cable Systems LAN Scape and has 6 vacant slots that can be used. See Fiber Housing attachment for actual type. Module can be Subscriber Connector (SC) or Lucent Connector (LC).
Q: Will new back board be required for the new wall mounted fiber patch panel in building 229? Is there room on the wall? Can we get a picture of the proposed location for the new fiber patch panel?
A: No Backboard is required for this project.
Q: Will new back board be required for the new fiber patch panels for the 1st and 3rd floor in building 229? Can we get pictures of those proposed locations?
A: No Backboard required. Space is available.
Q: Is there an existing pathway for the new cable run between the 1st and 3rd floor in building 229 and does it have capacity for a new 6 strand armored fiber optic cable? If existing and conduit, does it currently have pull-string?
A: There are 5” conduit sleeves between the floors with capacity to support the new SM Fiber cable.
Q: For the inter-building breezeway new conduit sleeves, is the government just talking sleeves for the penetrations from inside the building to outside into the breezeway, or is the government asking for new conduit the length of the breezeway? What type of material are we looking at having to core drill for the penetrations? Block wall, wood or steel frame with a brick or other veneer exterior? Can we get pictures of the proposed locations for the penetrations? Can we get a few pictures of the ceiling or inside the roof structure of the breezeway so we can see what will need to be done to either run conduit, or hang/attach the fiber across the breezeway.
A: Penetration would be concrete block, conduit would need to be Fire Rated Sleeve with Fire Stop material at both penetration sites. Full length conduit is not required for this run if using armored cable.
Q: Is there currently an existing path between TR-11 Room 1402-U in building 270 to the proposed penetration to the breezeway? If not, can the proposed path be annotated on a drawing with a brief description of the intended path, I.E. cable will be ran above a drop ceiling utilizing J-hooks, etc.
A: Some J-hooks are present but overall length of run will require J-hooks where none are present.
Q: Is there currently an existing path between TR-14 Room 1B090-U in building 229 to the proposed penetration to the breezeway? If not, can the proposed path be annotated on a drawing with a brief description of the intended path, I.E. cable will be ran above a drop ceiling utilizing J-hooks, etc.
A: Some J-hooks are present but overall length of run will require J hooks where none are present. Building #2 is an older building and may have some congestion issues. But cable can still be easily pulled.
Q: If there is an incumbent, could you please provide the current / previous contract number?
A: There is no incumbent contractor.
Q: Do you have the distances of the fiber pulls?
A: Distances are provided on the floorplans attached.
Q: Is there an existing pathway for the pulls?
A: Pathway is above the ceiling tiles, J-hooks will be required where none are present.
Q: Is the contractor responsible for providing the fiber and connectors?
A: Yes, contractor is responsible for providing all required materials & labor.
Q: Is there a Site Survey date/time scheduled or if we could get one scheduled?
A: Unfortunately no, the scope/size of this project does not warrant a site survey. Most specific details are laid out in the provided floorplan.
Q: How would the contractor go about submitting a quote?
A: The offerors shall submit their quote to the contract specialist Mr. Shane Wonsowicz at shane.p.wonsowicz.civ@army.mil.
