Section 01110 Scope of Work

The contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, and material required to remove the foam and built-up roofing material, inoperable penetrations/vents/equipment, rain gutters, downspouts, prepare existing surface for new roof material and install new recovery board/ insulation, membrane roof, drip edge, flashing, rain gutters, downspouts and repair a minimal amount of soffit/fascia to building 1000 at Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) in accordance with the scope of work and photos below as well as the drawings provided:

1. Existing Roof material/Dimensions:

The existing roof system on building 1000 is currently comprised of a 2” thick foam roof (varies) with a built-up roof (tar and gravel) and felt above the wood deck. See photos below. The area of the roof is approximately 18,000 Square Feet (SF). The contractor shall field verify the dimensions of the roof before delivering a cost proposal to the contracting office. It is mandatory that the contractor attend the site visit prior to submitting a bid to familiarize himself with the roof.

2. Demolition Work and Roof Preparation:

The contractor shall remove all existing roof materials down to the bare wood deck. The contractor shall place all of the non-metal disposable material from the roof in government provided dumpsters. The contractor shall place all metal disposable items in a metal dumpster also provided by the government. There are approximately 30 Ft. of rain gutter and a downspout above door number 5 to be removed and disposed of in the metal dumpster, as well as a number of evaporative coolers and assorted exhaust vents that are metal.

There are approximately 34 penetrations on the roof. 13 of these penetrations shall be removed, and 21 of them shall remain. Refer to the attached drawing for further details. All voids in the roof that exceed seven square inches shall be framed-in and sheathed flush, producing a structurally sound roof deck, ensuring the snow/roof loads have been met. There are approximately 10 vent pipes that are to remain on the roof. They shall all be modified to measure 24 inches above the finished roof surface, the contractor shall modify them prior to the installation of the new membrane roof. See drawings and photos for identification. The contractor shall field verify each and familiarize himself with them at the site visit. The contractor shall apply the appropriate roof jacks and flashing applications on the entire roof to ensure a water-tight and leak-free condition.

3. Soffit and Fascia Repairs:

The contractor shall refer to the photos below to see where there are areas to be repaired and replaced on both the soffit and the fascia materials. The contractor shall match the color and pattern of the existing soffit and fascia.

4. Roofing Materials and Work Execution:

The contractor shall install the necessary felt and/or vapor barrier required for membrane roofing. The recovery board shall be an approved 2” rigid membrane insulation/recovery board fastened to the specifications needed for the Factory Mutual I-90 wind rating.

If the existing deck is not able to produce this result, the contractor shall apply the necessary fasteners to the recovery board and membrane to produce the optimal wind resistance while retaining a 20 year warrantee. The contractor shall install new dark brown metal clad drip edge around the entire perimeter of the roof.

The termination of membrane material at the edges of the roof and the new drip edge shall be installed and approved by the new roofing material’s manufacturer. Any break metal used on the top of the roof for flashing, roof jacks and transitions shall be a WHITE vinyl clad material. The roofing material shall be a white single-ply, 60 mil. PVC membrane system over the recovery board. The membrane material shall be mechanically attached. All recovery board and membrane applications shall produce a Factory Mutual I- 90 wind rating. All surface preparation and material installation shall be used to ensure a full 20-year warranty by the manufacturer.

The contractor shall maintain continuous roof coverage during inclement weather during the entire construction period.

5. Worksite Cleanup and Employee Safety:

The contractor shall ensure that the worksite is cleaned-up daily and prior to leaving the site. He shall also take the necessary precautions to protect any personnel below, from materials on the roof as well as materials/debris being disposed of. Protective measures shall be taken by the contractor to protect the buildings from being damaged during the entire construction process. This shall be accomplished with using shoots and/or a protective barrier. Any damage to the facilities by the contractor shall be repaired by him at no additional expense to the government. There is a dock on the front of this building. Because of this, the dumpster placement locations are limited. The contractor shall ensure that ALL gravel and debris goes into the dumpsters. The contractor shall provide tarps and/or other materials to capture all gravel and debris, with NO gravel or debris around the perimeter of the building.

6. Submittals:

The contractor shall submit, for approval, all materials used in this contract. This shall include, but is not limited to the recovery board/insulation, membrane roofing, and flashing design, fastening materials, drip edge and termination design, design/material for the vent pipe extensions, rain gutter, downspout, the fascia and soffit. This shall be in the form of labeled samples, catalog cut sheets, or shop drawings. The contractor shall not proceed with work until these items have been approved by the COR. The contractor shall submit a safety plan and list of hazardous materials after award, and prior to commencement of work.
