Description for Purchase (DFP) For Ultrasonic Welding Machine

11 August 2015

1. BACKGROUND: Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) is seeking and ultrasonic welder to weld a small thin Aluminum Lid/Cap to two sizes of Aluminum tubes. The ultrasonic welding machine shall be configured in a manner for ease of use by operator and shall be of size to be considered “bench top.” The basic mode of operation shall consist of operator placing cup into a “nest”, place lid onto cup, press dual hand controls (local or remote) to instigate weld procedure. Machine shall automatically align lid to cup (engage/disengage cup/lid assembly) and provide for ease of removal of welded assembly.

2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

2.1. The unit shall ultrasonic weld two sizes of tubes and caps/lids as specified on

DWG 7624849, DWG 7624847, DWG 7624846,

DWG 1375-LL-000-5533, DWG JXRRN-DRWG-000322, DWG JXRRN-DRWG-000323

2.2. The unit shall weld cap/lid to tube(s), noted in section 2.1, and create a hermetically sealed bond able to withstand a vacuum leak test at 24 inches of Mercury

2.3. The unit shall have local two hand tie down controls for “Cycle Start”. The unit shall also have a set of remote two hand tie down controls for “Cycle Start”. A local keyed selector switch shall be provided to select between local and remote “Cycle Start” controls.

2.4. Electrically, the unit shall meet Hazard rating Class of Class I, Div. I Groups C & D;

Class II, Div I, Groups E, F, G.

2.5. The Horn and Anvil shall apply the weld force axial and directly over the parts to be welded.

2.6. The unit shall be of “bench top” size and shall not exceed 32” deep x 48” in length.

3. DELIVERABLES:

3.1. Welder. Delivery of fully functioning machine meeting all requirements specified in paragraph 2 above.

3.2 Set-up. Complete set-up at CAAA, with the exception of the switch associated with the “Remote Start” referenced in Section 2.3. CAAA personnel shall install the Remote Start switch at the building site.

3.3 Production Support. The contractor shall be on-site for the first two days of use. Set-up and Production support may not be continuous days and may require two site visits.

3.4 Manuals. Two sets of user manuals and maintenance manuals (English).

3.5 Calibration. Calibration standards (if required) and calibration procedure (if required).

4. ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA To be considered acceptable, the unit shall successfully weld 25 units in succession without a leak failure as described in Section 2.2.
