About this file
This document is a technical drawing set for the 208B Ultra Sonic Pit project at Rock Island Arsenal JMTC Plant Engineering Directorate, dated 02-24-26 and drawn by B. Niles with approval from R. McClure.
The project involves construction of an underground pit in the basement of Building 208, measuring 66 inches deep with dimensions of 168 inches by 232 inches. The work includes saw cutting and removing the existing concrete floor slab, excavating to 66 inches below finished floor level, placing 6 inches of CA6 compacted base material, installing #5 rebar at 12" x 12" grid spacing in both directions, and constructing an 8-inch-thick concrete pit wall with minimum 5000 PSI concrete. The wall will be dowelled to the existing floor with #4 rebar spaced 12" on center, and the top will be fitted with galvanized angle steel to support metal grating. Expansion board measuring 1/2 inch thick is required between the new wall and existing structure, with 1/2-inch rigid foam insulation for vibration isolation. The contractor must also expand an existing overhead door opening from 72" x 96" to 96" x 112" and install a new insulated powered roll-up overhead door. General construction requirements include dust control through water application, barricading 6 feet from the work area, concrete transport haul time limits based on temperature conditions, jack hammering restricted to 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM or Saturdays, and all work performed by competent qualified workmen per AISC standards. The project site is located inside a 40-foot by 20-foot room with approximately 10-foot ceiling height and existing crane rail that must be protected during construction. Security requirements mandate that all contractor personnel complete AT Level I awareness training, background checks, and comply with installation access procedures and the RAMP program.
