About this file
This document provides answers to questions on an amendment to a solicitation for a 7-axis machine. The amendment provides clarification on several requirements for the machine, including that the right angle head must have an index angle of at most 2.5 degrees and capability for automatic tool change and through spindle coolant. A post processor for the machine programming systems at Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, which uses NX and ICAM software, will also be required. The amendment further specifies that the contractor shall supply the initial cutting fluid for start-up and machine operation as part of a turnkey contract. Rock Island Arsenal will remove the existing machine.

AMENDMENT 0001 NARRATIVE
The purpose of Amendment 0001 is to answer industry questions.
Q 1) Request foundation drawings of area for machine to be located.
A 1) Whereas we have a firm idea of where the equipment will go, it can change up until we approach the actual award of a contract. A better action at this time would be for the bidding vendors to identify foundation requirements and RIA-JMTC determine if the area can support such foundation. Our current machines are installed in the likely location for the new machine. I will check with our public works department to see if such a drawing exists however I don’t want to hold up the rest of the answers while I search. This document would also need to be approved for public release which takes time.
Q 2) Right-angle head:
- What is the index angle of degree – 1 degree, 2.5 degree, or infinite?
The right angle head shall have at most, a 2.5 degree index angle. Smaller is acceptable.
- Does the drawbar need to be manual or automatic?
I believe this would need to be automatic. Can I have more clarification on the term?
- Will the right-angle head need the capability of automatic tool change to it?
The right angle head will need the capability of automatic tool change.
- Will the right-angle head require through the spindle coolant capabilities?
The right angle head will need through spindle coolant capabilities.
Q 3) Is a post processor required?
A 3) Yes. A post processor will be required in order for the equipment to be operational with our programming systems at RIA JMTC. JMTC uses NX and ICAM for the current machines.
Q 4) Is RIA removing the existing machine?
A 5) RIA will be responsible for the removal of the existing machine.
Q 5) Will the contractor be required to supply the cutting fluid?
A 6) The contractor shall be required to supply the cutting fluid for the initial start up and run off of the machine.
The contract is for a turn-key system and therefore all fluids, oils, etc. required for proof of machine operation need to be supplied by the contractor.

ALL OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS REMAIN UNCHANGED.
