About this file
This document is a Questions & Answers file for the W50S9H26QA010 - F18 Aircraft Transport Services contract. The document details specifications for transporting an F-18 aircraft, including precise dimensional requirements for the aircraft and its removable components. Key details include the aircraft's weight of 26,500 lbs, dimensions of 54 ft length by 11.8 ft width by 10.5 ft height, and a declared value of $500,000. The transport involves removing and separately crating wings, horizontal tails, flaps, and ailerons, with specific crate dimensions provided for each component.
The Q&A also confirms critical logistics for the shipment: the aircraft will be drained of fuel, oil, and hydraulic fluid prior to transport, and is not for static display. Crews from Miramar will assist with loading the aircraft onto a trailer, and crews at Volk Fld will be on-site to unload the aircraft and its associated components. Previous transports have utilized a low boy trailer and angled positioning, with the main landing gear resting directly on the trailer. The document indicates the wings will be shipped separately from the aircraft body, and no alternate route planning is required for this shipment.
