About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for solicitation W50S9625QA011 for a CNC Tube Bender, containing three amendments dated 29 July, 31 July, and 8 August 2025. The solicitation is for a tube bending machine to be used in aviation hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel tubing fabrication, with specific technical requirements including compatibility with Eaton Leonard VB25 tooling, ability to bend round aluminum alloy (6061-T6) and stainless steel tubes, and capacity to handle materials with outside diameters of 0.250" – 1.00", wall thicknesses of 0.028" – 0.080", and bend radii of 0.500 – 4.000. The machine must support multi-plane bending, push bending with a maximum 360-degree bend angle, and operate with a 3-phase power supply (25 Amp, 60 Hz, 480v).

Key operational details include a raw material length of 5', an annual production volume of 300-400 lines per year, and a shortest bend-to-bend distance of 2". The project timeline indicates a requested delivery, installation, and training period of 120 days after contract award, with bending to be performed using a mandrel. The solicitation seeks a CNC Tube Bender to replace or supplement the current Eaton Leonard VB ELEC machine, with specific requirements for dual rotation capabilities and compatibility with existing tooling (referenced in Attachment 3 of the RFQ).

Questions and Answers

W50S9625QA011 – CNC Tube Bender

Amendment 0001 – Date: 29 July 2025

1. Will a forklift be available upon delivery to offload the tube bender, or will the contractor need to provide one?

Answer: We will have a forklift available upon delivery to offload the tube bender.

2. What type of materials will the machine be used for?

Answer: Aluminum Alloy and Stainless Steel

3. What is the range of bend radius required?

Answer: 0.500 – 4.000

4. What is the range of metal wall thickness the machine will be used for?

Answer: 0.028” – 0.080”

5. What is the outside diameter of the materials the machine will be used for?

Answer: 0.250” – 1.00”

6. What are the tooling requirements? Is Eaton Leonard VB25 a must?

Answer: Compatibility with Eaton Leonard VB25 tooling is required

Amendment 0002 – Date: 31 July 2025

7. Dual Rotation shall be clockwise and counterclockwise. Do you mean this style of machine

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcbfzstunq4)? Or this style of machine

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heOWvomibyU)? Or do you mean something else? Please elaborate. I.e. Convertible from left-hand to right-hand? The standard line of VLB machines is symmetrical and can be switched between rotations as needed.

Answer: The style of the second video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heOWvomibyU) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcbfzstunq4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heOWvomibyU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heOWvomibyU

8. Shall have a maximum bend angle rotation of 360° Coil bend. Does this mean calendar bending/push bending, where you are using rollers? See video titled WhatsApp Video 2022-10-

18 at 10.58.07.

Answer: Yes. Push bending for a potential max bend angle of 360 degrees.

Amendment 0003 – Date: 8 August 2025

9. What is the nature of business we are involved with? (Example: metalwork or steel fabrication)

Answer: Aviation hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel tubing fabrication.

10. Is the material to be bend round, square, angle, or rectangle?

Answer: Round

11. What is the tensile strenght?

Answer: This falls outside of our expertise to answer

12. For the material aluminum, what is the alloy and temper?

Answer: Aluminum Alloy 6061-T6 (SAE AMS 7081 D3)

13. For the materials listed above per question #2 (Aluminum Alloy and Stainless Steel) does the following apply:

a. Is the bending radius range per question #3 the same for both Aluminum Alloy and

Stainless Steel?

b. Is the wall thickness range per question #4 the same for both Aluminum Alloy and

Stainless Steel?

c. Is the outside diameter range per question #5 the same for both Aluminum Alloy and

Stainless Steel?

Answer: Yes. The ranges for questions 3, 4, and 5 apply to both Aluminum Alloy & Stainless

Steel

14. For the bend angle listed above per question #8, is the bend angle the same for both

Aluminum Alloy and Stainless Steel?

Answer: Yes

15. What is the volt and phase for power requirement? (Example: 1 phase or 3 phase).

Answer: 3-Phase; 25 Amp; 60 Hz; 480v

16. What is the raw length of material that is being used to make the bend or what is the starting material length?

Answer: 5’

17. Is the material being bent in a single plane or a multi plane? (meaning are the bends on the same side of the material or on different sides).

Answer: Multi-plane bending for tube itself; each bend on single-plane

18. Will you be bending with or without mandrel?

Answer: Yes with the mandrel.

19. What is the present method of bending?

Answer: CNC Tube Bender; Eaton Leonard VB ELEC

20. What is the shortest bend to bend distance that you would like to produce?

Answer: 2” (From end of first bend to start of second bend)

21. What is the Annual volume (pieces per year)?

Answer: 300-400 lines per year.

22. What is the project timeline (time to select machine, machine installation, & training?

Answer: Per the RFQ the requested delivery, installation, and training is 120 days after date of contract or best delivery date provided with quote. The current timeline is unknown as all quotes will require evaluation before an award is made.

23. Can you provide a list of existing bending tools?

Answer: See B.08 RFQ W50S9625QA011 Attachment 3 Existing Tooling List - CNC Tube

Bender
