W50S9622B0001 – Construct Aircraft Maintenance Shops Question and Answer – Amendment 2
Amendment 1 – 10 January 2022
Question 0001: Sheet E100, note E026, is the 200 pair copper all new from building 64 to the new building 17? Sheet E100, note E032, are the (2) 24 strand fiber optic cables all new from building 64 to the new building 17? Also, this note ‘existing fiber and copper’, is this in addition to the 200 pair and (3) 24 strand FO; if so what are the pairs and strands of the existing? Will any of the FO or copper need spliced in the manholes? Do the FO cables need terminated in building 17 and 64? Are there existing EMPTY innerducts with pull ropes in the existing conduits, what size is the existing conduit or innerduct if there is any?
Response 0001:
Note E026: 200 pair copper will be new installed from contractor with new entrance protectors. No existing Copper.
Note E032: (3) 24 strand fiber terminates in Bldg 37 not Bldg 64. No existing copper coiled in manhole. Fiber will be long enough to extend into room S105 without splice and will need to be terminated in room S105. Distant end in Bldg 37 is terminated.
Interduct with pull rope is available to Bldg 64 for the new copper.
Question 0002: Sheet E100, Is there an overall site plan that shows the manholes and the location of building 64?
Response 0002: See Amendment 0001, Attachment 3.
Question 0003: Sheet E101, the communications conduits feeding the new building in room S105 (note E037) show to be from the existing comm inground box to the south, not the new manhole, is this correct? Are the (3) fiber optic cables not needed under the alternate #3, there is no plan note for them.
Response 0003: Replace manhole as noted E041 with a manhole capable of withstanding vehicle traffic. Delete notes E038 and E039.
Question 0004: E113, how many comm racks are in room S100?
Response 0004: Number of racks to be determined by total number of terminated drops serviced by room S100 meeting TIA standard for fill ratio.
Question 0005: What does the Cat6 copper backbone cabling need to terminate to in the comm rooms A105 & S100? (110 blocks;
wall or rack mounted? Or Cat6 patch panels?) Do these cable terminate on the service entrance protector in room S105, or does this room also need a patch panel or 110 block?
Response 0005: Cables will need to terminate on a rack mounted Cat6 patch panel in room S100 and S105. Do not terminate on the service entrance protector.
Question 0006: Is the intent to use Basket or Ladder style tray in the comm rooms?
Response 0006: Metal Cable Tray Systems shall comply with Specification Section 26 0536 2.02 D. Metal Wire Mesh/Basket Cable Tray.
Question 0007: Are the only rooms fed from comm room A105: A103 & A105?
Response 0007: Yes, room A103 is the only room fed by A105. Cross connect from A105 to S105 as noted in Note E348.
Question 0008: Room WM104, data on left wall, is this 4 cat6 and 2 fiber pair? Is this room feed from A105 or S105?
Response 0008: Yes, 4 Cat6 and 2 fiber pair. To be fed from room S105.
Question 0009: Room A102, do the desks in the middle of the room need communication cabling?
Response 0009: Note E360 (J) change to (2) additional data drop locations (4 data per drop).
Question 0010: E112, room WM105 data location, is this 4 fibers and 2 data?
Response 0010: Misprint, should be 4 data, no fiber.
Amendment 0002 - Attachment 1
Question 0011: E112, room WM117, there are no data locations shown in this room, are they needed?
Response 0011: Provide data drops according to the attached (updated) drawing for room WM117. See Amendment 0001, Attachment 4.
Question 0012: E112, room WM119 & 118, floorbox locations, if we need to terminate the data cable jacks in faceplates, we will only be able to fit 6 per compartment. If we do not need a faceplate/frame to mount the jacks and can only terminate on the jacks and leave loose in the floorbox, 8 per compartment will work. Or we will need to add additional floor boxes for the data locations.
Response 0012: Plan sheet E112 – locations noted as E254 with 8 data jacks shall be changed to 6 data jacks at each location terminated in faceplates.
Question 0013: Will the Bicsi RCDD be required for this project? Or will Bicsi Technicians be acceptable?
Response 0013: BICSI Technician is acceptable.
Question 0014: Are you looking for single mode or multi mode for the horizontal fiber optic cable? LC style inserts in the faceplates for the Fiber optic jacks, what color?
Response 0014: Multi mode from comm room to data drop with LC terminations. Shielded cable and shielded ends for SIPR.
SIPR cabling must be marked with red every 3 feet. No color requirements or any other special requirements will be needed from the contractor/installer for general communications requirements.
Question 0015: Any color requirements besides standard fiber cable colors or the Horizontal Fiber optic cable?
Response 0015: No special color requirements.

Response 0016: Construction project magnitude is between $10M and $25M. Bid bond needs to cover bid.
Question 0017: Will Procore be an approved equal for submittal exchange?
Response 0017: Submittal exchange will need to be approved during the submittal process after contract award.
Question 0018: Spec section 099723 Concrete and Masonry Coatings is calling to seal concrete floors, however 033511 Concrete Floor Finishes is also a spec for sealing concrete. Please clarify.
Response 0018: Specification Section 09 9723 applies only to (concrete and masonry) walls. Specification Section 03 3511 applies to Concrete Floor Finishes.
Question 0019: The specs state that there are 2 Geotechnical reports available for inspection at the US Government’s office during normal business hours. We and our subcontractors do not have access to that office; is there any way the reports could be shared with us electronically?
