About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document clarifying scope requirements for a Statement of Work (SOW) involving the removal and replacement of sacrificial wood components and support beams at an overhead baffle facility.
Scope Clarifications for Task D – Sacrificial Wood Replacement: Task D requires the removal and replacement of sacrificial wood for Overhead Baffles #5 and #4, spanning approximately 108 feet in length. The clarifications confirm that replacement includes three layers of marine plywood (front, middle, and back), 1"x6" boards nailed over bolt heads, and 2"x6" continuous boards at top and bottom. The 10-gauge steel plates are not to be replaced, as they are assumed to be in acceptable condition. All replacement wood must be pressure-treated and rated for outdoor use.
Scope Clarifications for Task E – Support Beam Replacement: Task E requires removal and replacement of overhead baffle support beams running approximately 80 feet in length. The clarification specifies that the beams are 8"x10" dimensions running parallel to the direction of travel and must be replaced in-kind with pressure-treated wood rated for outdoor use. The document confirms that the sacrificial wood components requiring replacement across both Tasks D and E are specifically: the plywood layers, 1"x6" boards over bolt heads, and 2"x6" top and bottom continuous boards.

Please see the following question in regards to the above photo relative to the following SOW statements:
D. Remove and replace the sacrificial wood for Overhead Baffle#5 & Overhead Baffle#4. The sacrificial wood running approximately 108 feet in length for the overhead baffle above the targets and the baffle just before the targets, as shown in attached photo. Replace in kind material and dimension. Wood shall be pressure treated rated for outdoor use.
1. Does this include the plywood, front, middle and back? The attached detail shows 3 ea. layers of marine plywood Correct; front middle and back.
2. Are we replacing the 10 ga. steel plate? The attached detail shows 2 ea. continuous plates. No; the assumption is that the steel is in acceptable condition.
E. Remove and replace the overhead baffle support beams. The wood running is approximately 80 feet long and cut to the existing dimensions with for the overhead baffle supports, as shown in attached photo. Replace in kind material and dimension. Wood shall be pressure treated rated for outdoor use.
1. In regards to this statement of work, can you point out which member of the attached detail you are referencing here? Is it the “8”x8” Pressure Treated Wood Beam”? or is it the “8”x10” pressure treated wood beam”? Or neither? The dimensions shown on the drawings are 8"x 10" for the beams running parallel to the direction of travel with an approximate length of 80 feet beam
Final questions as it relates to both “D & E” above;
1. What members specifically are we categorizing as “sacrificial wood” on the baffles #4 & #5? ie. Plywood, 1”x6” boards nailed over bolt heads, 2”x6” continuous boards top & bottom, etc…..
Correct. The plywood, the 1"x6" over the bolts heads, and the 2"x6" boards top & bottom are sacrificial wood that requires replacement.
