Questions & Answers Attachment to Amendment 0002 to solicitation W50S73-20-B-0001

Question 1 – In the “Statement of Work” para 3.9 Concrete, the concrete being called for is Fibrous Concrete Design Mixes (para 3.9.1). This specification does not identify what the requirement is for fiber. Please provide clarification as to what type of fiber is to be included in the concrete mix design and at what application rate per CYD of concrete the fiber is to be added.

Answer 1 - Per UFC 3.260.02 Fibrous concrete pavement is rigid pavement strengthened by the introduction of randomly mixed, short, small-diameter steel fibers. See the UFC for recommended mixtures. But, Fibrillated fiber may been used as an alternative for the above steel fibers (and is currently the preferred solution) but the overall flexural and compressive strength cannot be reduced from the specifications.
