Bidders Questions and Answers

1) Is the spoils of the 12” of topsoil to be stored on site or hauled off? If not being hauled off, is it to be stockpiled or wasted and how far will this activity be from the work area? The 12” of material is to be spread near the site. There’s a large grassy area and the contractor has one (1) acre to work with for spreading this topsoil.

2) What is the extent of the silt fencing? Drawings nor SOW dictate limits. Since the excavation area is approximately 9’ x 40’ (360 sf) and 12” deep, the government is not too concerned with silt fencing so as long as topsoil is spread during excavation. If soil is piled up in a mound, silt fencing would need to be placed around the topsoil pile until it is spread by the contractor at a later date.

3) Does the new concrete pad require a gravel base? First off, thank you for asking this question as this detail should have been put into the initial drawing set. Contractor is to use #57 crushed stone and compact to 98%.

4) Asbestos abatement was mentioned in the contract. Are you all thinking that asbestos is in the concrete? Otherwise I am very confused about this being included. The asbestos mentioned in the contract is a “catch-all” for all contracts whether it’s building repair/renovation, demolition, etc. as is any lead paint reference, etc. This particular project doesn’t have asbestos or lead paint to be concerned with. Please ignore the mentioning of asbestos with this contract.
