For most systems, this is a simple amplifier within the perimeter that takes the incoming audio signal and amplifies/distributes the signal to the speakers within the space. However, equipment such as pre-amplifiers, amplifiers and products translating or converting live voice signals for use in mass notification systems must comply with the applicable requirements in UL 864, the Standard for Amplifiers for Fire-Protective Signaling Systems.
