About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document (#2) for Solicitation W50S6V25Q0006, addressing technical requirements for a TSA-compliant flyaway kit. The document clarifies four key points: 1) A standard shock proof/dust proof Pelican case is preferred over carbon fiber for the 22" x 14" x 9" transit case, 2) Details about the required switch type and specifications are referenced in the original request, 3) Battery backup (UPS) is not desired as it would increase the footprint beyond the compact solution requirement, and 4) The solution must be contained in a single case rather than the proposed three-case configuration, despite a vendor's suggestion to split the server, switch, RAID controllers, and storage across multiple cases under 35 lbs each.

The Q&A demonstrates that the contracting agency is prioritizing a compact, single-case solution that meets TSA carry-on requirements (35 lbs, 22" x 14" x 9") while maintaining necessary technical capabilities. This includes accommodating a server, 10Gig switch, and RAID storage system without battery backup, all within the specified size and weight constraints.

Questions and Answers #2 Solicitation #: W50S6V25Q0006

Requirement of TSA-compliant (airline carry-on size 35 lbs.) 22” x 14” x 9” and the technology required.

Q1. We can provide a solution that needs the weight and dimension for a carry-on; however, does it require a Carbon Fiber Transit Case: 22” x 14” x 9” shock and battle-tested?

A1: Not sure why it would need to be carbon fiber, a typical shock proof/dust proof Pelican case is preferred.

Q2. With a flyaway kit, is a 10Gig switch required for faster deployment, and can sniffing ports be assigned?

A2: See request, it specifically outlines the type of switch we want and specs.

Q3. With a Raid controller, it is strongly recommended that a battery backup is required to prevent corruption on the hard drives in the event of power. Does a battery backup is required for the raid controller?

If not required, do you know if the client will assume responsibility?

A3: Battery back-up (UPS) will create a larger foot-print thus moving further away from small and compact solution requirement.

Q4. Our solution included (3) cases, each under 35 lbs., and TSA compliance. Are three cases acceptable?

Case 1- server, 10Gig Switch, and 1TB with a case under 35 lbs

Case 2- Raid controller 1 – 120 TB with battery backup (strongly recommended) under 35 lbs

Case 3- Raid controller 1 – 120TB with battery backup (strongly recommended under 35 lbs

A4: No, a single case solution is required.
