About this file
This Request for Information (RFI) pertains to the removal and installation of roll-up doors for the 117 Air Refueling Wing. The RFI addresses several technical considerations for door installation, including ceiling modifications, infrastructure impacts, and structural requirements. Key technical questions include whether ceiling removal is necessary, if electrical and HVAC components need relocation, and installation framing requirements. The contractors are advised to follow manufacturer installation instructions and can use lift clearance track to maximize vertical door travel.
The associated federal contract opportunity involves removing and installing 3 insulated roll-up doors at a facility located at 5401 East Lake Blvd. in Birmingham, Alabama. A mandatory site visit is scheduled for 25 June 2025 at 10:00 a.m. CST at Building 700, with strict attendance requirements. Interested contractors must email registration details including firm name, visitor name, and driver's license number to three specified Air Force contact emails. The solicitation is issued by the Department of the Army Alabama Army National Guard, with solicitation number W50S6M25QA011, and requires comprehensive labor, materials, equipment, and supervision for complete door installation and proper disposal of existing doors.

Roll-Up Door RFI’s Ryan Frankel- Fedcology
1. Will the ceilings need to be removed the entire width of the openings, plus an additional foot on each side, and a minimum of 12 feet back from the opening in order to install a sectional door instead of a rolling door? All thread rods/anchors would be an acceptable solution to maintain sectional door below ceiling grid . Contractor must follow manufacturer installation instructions
1. Does all electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and similar infrastructure above the ceilings need to be removed to accommodate the sectional door? No need to remove any electrical or HVAC component, as doors should be installed below ceiling grid.
1. Will additional framing be required to support the installation of the sectional door? Contractor must follow manufacturer installation instructions
1. Can lift clearance track be used to the extent allowed by the available headroom, in order to allow the doors to travel vertically as far as possible before breaking back into the room? Please provide additional details.
1. Since the middle door has a trolley crane perpendicular to it, will this crane need to be removed for the sectional door installation? No, roll-up doors with specified insulation will be acceptable.
