About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding a roof replacement project at Tobyhanna Army Depot. The project involves replacing roofs on buildings 334 and 5-3 with new .050 inch aluminum edging and parapet wall caps in a dark bronze kynar finish. 60 mil reinforced EPDM membrane is specified for building 334. Non-treated lumber that is compatible with the roof system manufacturer's requirements may be used. All coping, fascia, and gutters are to be dark bronze. Ecostorm coverboard will be installed due to its high recycled content. The wind rating for all roofs is 72 mph. Metal products must be covered under the roof manufacturer's warranty. Alternative insulation may be used if it meets the required R-value and fire ratings and is warranted by the roof manufacturer.

New .050” aluminum with dark bronze kynar finish manufactured to meet ES-1 and FM-90 will be supplied and installed by the contractor
5 Can we use non-treated lumber which is acceptable by the manufacturer? Yes
6 Building 334 EPDM spec’d is .090 reinforced.
Is this correct?
The specification should have read 60 mil reinforced membrane
7 Can we use aluminum for all the coping and fascia? If so what gauge? .050 alumimum see #2
What are we to do with the concrete pavers holding the existing membrane on 5-3 down?
The contractor will remove the pavers from the roof, stack them on pallets and place them on the ground. The Government will remove them from the jobsite. If needed, the Government will supply pallets to hold the pavers.
9 Can the existing coping be shop formed from mil finished as per one existing parapet cap? No
10 Is the entire coping, fascia, gutter to be dark bronze? Yes
There is no mention of the insulation or ecostorm coverboard in the spec, it is called for in the SOW but the spec doesn’t have any provision for it.
Both roofs will have the Ecostorm coverboard installed in the system due to it's high recycled content.
12 Is the wind rating 110mph correct? All roofs at TYAD from the past had a 72mph rating
The wind rating for the roofs will be 72mph.
Disregard the 110mph rating.
Please clarify that the metal copings are to be bought through Carlisle and included in the warranty with all ES1/FM certifications
All metal products must be compatible and covered under the roof manufacturers warranty.
In light of the material shortages - specifically Polyiso insulation. Would TYAD consider switching to an alternative insulation (in place of Polyiso) that is more readily available as long as the following criteria are met:
The material may be substituted if it meets these requirements. 1) Adjust thickness to meet the R value in the solicitation. 2) No change to external & internal fire Rating. 3) Density similar to Polyiso
4) Must be warranted by the roof manufacturer as part of the roof system warranty.
