About this file
This document contains a series of questions and answers related to a vault door installation project. The key details include a requirement for the installer to have a current GSA Vault Door Installer's Certification under FED STD 600D. The existing door opening may need modification, with current measurements suggesting a single-leaf door clear opening of 40" wide x 78" high. The wall is constructed of CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit), and the vault door is a GSA Class 5 type weighing approximately 1,500 lbs. Access to the installation area will be through a side entrance with double doors and no turns, with 6 feet of clear working space available in front of the existing vault door opening.

1. Is there a requirement for the vault door installer to have a current GSA Vault Door Installer's Certification?
1. Yes , FED STD 600D.
2. The existing door opening is too small for a GSA approved Class 5A vault door installation. The existing opening will have to be cut and modified to accommodate the new GSA approved vault door. The current SOW does not call for any modifications to the existing opening. Please confirm that you are in agreement the existing opening must be modified and reworked to accommodate the new GSA approved vault door installation.
1. Based on our measurements and the specs of the existing door we believe once the current door is fully removed there will be enough room.
1. Single-leaf doors: Commonly have a clear opening of 40" wide x
78" high (1015 mm x 1980 mm).
2. Masonry opening: The rough opening in the wall for the doorframe is typically larger than the clear opening. For a 40" wide door, the masonry opening is usually 43" wide x 83" high.
3. Weight: GSA Class 5 vault doors typically weigh around 1,500 lbs.
3. What is the thickness of the existing vault wall where the replacement door will be installed? We are having trouble coordinating with someone to get into the vault to get an answer.
4. What is the construction material of the wall (e.g., CMU, poured concrete, etc.)?
CMU
5. What is the access route through the building to get the new vault door to the installation area? Any turns or width constraints we should be aware of?
1. Side entrance will allow straight access through double doors on the side of the building in the same hallway. With no turns required.
6. How much clear working space is available in front of the existing vault door opening? (e.g., 5 ft, 6 ft, etc.)
1. 6 Feet
