US ARMY GARRISON FORT DEVENS

DEVENS RESERVE FORCES TRAINING AREA, MA 01434

STATEMENT OF WORK

FOR

REPLACE REAR DOOR,

BUILDING 642A

JOB NO. M14-81912-8J

JULY 18, 2018

LOCATION: 4 LEXINGTON STREET, FORT DEVENS, MA. 01434

PROJECT POC: George Markt

I. PART 1 GENERAL

A. SUMMARY OF WORK

Contractor shall provide all plant, labor, equipment, materials, supervision and transportation to perform the following as specified within this Statement of Work (SOW), bid sheet and drawings.

1. Project Location: Building 642A, 4 Lexington Street, Fort Devens Reserve Forces Training Area - Devens, MA. 01434

2. Building Access. Contractor shall contact George Markt at 978-796-3133 for building access. Access to the building will be controlled, limited and restricted.

3. DPW Point of Contact is George Markt at 978-796-3133.

4. Work Hours: Normal work hours are conducted between 0730 Hours to 1530 Hours, Monday thru Friday.

5. Site survey is highly recommended to verify existing Building 642A door conditions prior to submission of any estimates.

6. All work shall be performed within strict compliance per Steel Door Institute (SDI)

Latest Edition.

B. WORK INCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT

Contractor shall provide all plant, labor, equipment, material, supervision, and transportation required to perform the following work according to drawings and specifications:

1. Remove one pair of exterior steel entrance doors and frame

2. Clean existing surfaces of all materials and elements remaining after frame removal. Cut existing anchoring devices flush with existing wall surface and prepare said surface for new frame installation.

3. Install new pair of exterior entrance door and new door frame, components and appurtenances at the locations shown on the attached drawings and as specified here within

a. Existing doors are broken, and framework conditions are poor. Existing doors do not operate properly

b. The new doors and hinges and frame shall be designed to be complete, fully functional, true, plumb, in plane, and operational.

4. SECTION INCLUDES

a. Steel doors and steel frames.

b. Steel frame components for stick assemblies.

C. SUBMITTALS.

The contractor shall submit manufacturer’s product data, installation instructions, and sample for following:

1. Door mockup which may be fully installed after approval

2. Full height geared hinge

3. Door hardware

4. Door openers and controls

5. REQUIREMENTS

A. All submittals to be delivered to COP as identified below.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.

2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

3. Installation methods.

C. Shop Drawings: Include schedule identifying each unit, with door marks or numbers referencing drawings. Show layout, profiles, product components and anchorages.

D. Samples: 18 by 24 inches (457 by 610 mm) cut away sample door with provisions for lockset, hinge and corner section of frame.

E. Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.

F. Closeout Submittals: Provide manufacturer's maintenance instructions that include recommendations for periodic checking and adjustment of cable tension and periodic cleaning and maintenance of all railing and infill components.

6. QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum five years documented experience manufacturing products specified this Section.

B. Installer Qualifications: Minimum five years documented experience installing products specified this Section.

C. All products shall conform to the requirements of ANSI A250.8, "SDI 100 Recommended Specifications for Standard Steel Doors and Frames".

D. Insulated Doors shall have:

1. A "U Factor" of 0.10 for a Polyurethane core.

7. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Handle, store and protect products in accordance with the manufacturers printed instructions and ANSI/SDI A250.10 and NAAMM/HMMA 840.

B. Store frames in an upright position with heads uppermost under cover. Place on 4 inch (102 mm) high wood sills to prevent rust and damage. Store assembled frames five units maximum in a stack with 2-inch (51 mm) space between frames to promote air circulation.

C. Do not store under non-vented plastic or canvas shelters.

D. Remove wrappers immediately if they become wet.

8. SEQUENCING

A. Ensure that locating templates and other information required for installation of products of this section are furnished to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

B. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

II. PART 2 PRODUCTS

A. DOORS AND ACCESSORIES

Work includes providing all materials, labor and transportation to replace one (1) pair of exterior steel doors with glass lites at designated location of 642A.

1.1 Replacement doors shall:

A. Be new steel doors 3'- 0" x 7'- 0"[nominal dimensions] with narrow lite window

1. Doors shall have poly ethylene core with U-values of 0.1

B. Have full height continuous gear hinges in accordance in accordance with

ANSI/BHMA A156.26.

C. Have Manufacturer's standard rim panic devices and off-set handles

D. Have ICN 4040 surface mounted closers

E. Door frame shall be steel

1. Door frames shall be mounted to existing masonry wall with bolts through top hat reinforcements (welded to frame)

F. Door shall have high thermal performance - where possible and practical

1. Weather stripping for tight air seal

2. Design and construction for tight air seal

3. Low U Value [<= 0.13] for door frame and glass system

4. Installation for tight air seal in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.22.

G. Have a dark bronze finish similar to existing doors and windows on building

H. Narrow glass lites shall be 5” wide and 24” tall and as shown on drawings

I. Door Glass lite shall be made with:

1. Outboard lite:

2. ¼" tempered reflective solar bronze glass

3. ½" air space filled with krypton gas

4. Inboard lite:

5. ¼" in overall thickness constructed of (2) 1/8" heat strengthened clear glass pieces laminated together with an interlayer of 0.030 polyvinyl butyral

6. Spacer within this thermal glazing must be thermally broken aluminum and the primary seal around the edge of this thermos-pane must be polyisobutylene and for the secondary seal must be specially formulated silicone

7. This door frame must have ¾" depth all around for glass seat

8. This window is a single fixed pane

9. All window glass shall be appropriately labelled by the manufacturer indicating type of glass and specific NFRC ratings. Use standard NFRC label.

1.2 MANUFACTURERS

A. Acceptable Manufacturer: Republic Doors and Frames an Allegion Brand, which is located at: 11819 N. Pennsylvania St.; Carmel, IN 46032; Toll Free Tel: 888-868- 8943; Email:request info (contactus@allegion.com); Web:www.republicdoor.com

1.3 MATERIALS

A. Uncoated Steel Sheet: Cold rolled commercial steel sheet complying with ASTM A 366/A 366M.

B. Galvannealed Steel Sheet: ASTM A 653/A 653M, commercial quality, hot-dipped.

1. Coating Thickness: G90 coating (Galvanized.)

1.4 DOORS AND FRAMES

A. Doors: Full flush (No Vertical Face Seams), complying with ANSI A250.8; face panels laminated to core and complete unit closed with steel perimeter channels projection welded to face sheets.

1. Thickness: 1-3/4 inches (44 mm).

a. ANSI Level 4, Model 2; 14 gage (1.7 mm) faces, no visible edge seams.

2. Core: Doors fabricated by laminating panels to a specified core and the complete unit closed with steel perimeter channels, projection welded to the face sheets. Core shall be as follows:

a. Polyurethane core.

3. Steel Stiffened Doors: Steel reinforced with minimum 20 gage (0.794 mm) hat shaped stiffeners welded to the inside of each face sheet at maximum of 6 http://admin.arcat.com/users.pl?action=UserEmail&company=Republic+Doors+and+Frames+an+Allegion+Brand&coid=35153&rep=&fax=&message=RE:%20Spec%20Question%20(08110rbp):%20%20&mf= http://www.republicdoor.com/ inches (150 mm) on center, with mineral wool filling spaces between stiffeners. Stiffeners shall be:

a. Minimum 16 gage (1.3 mm).

B. Door Reinforcements:

1. Top and Bottom Channels: 16 gage steel, projection welded to both face sheets at a maximum of 2-1/2 inched (64 mm) on center.

a. For exterior Doors fill top channel with epoxy and grind smooth.

2. Hinge Reinforcement: Hinge reinforcing channel shall be projection welded to both face sheets at a maximum of 5 inches (127 mm) on center.

a. DE Series: 1-3/4 inch (44 mm) thick. Reinforced with a continuous 10 gage channel.

3. Closer Reinforcement: 12 gage box type reinforcement, 18 inches (457 mm) long.

1.5 FRAMES CONSTRUCTION

A. Frames: Formed steel sheet, with 2 inch (50 mm) wide face jambs and heads unless otherwise indicated; complying with ANSI A250.8.

1. Frame Depth: Fixed, as indicated on drawings.

2. ANSI Level 4 Doors: 14 gage (1.9 mm) frames.

3. Material: Galvannealed steel sheet.

4. Corners: Mitered; face welded and ground smooth.

5. Provide 3 silencers for single doors, 2 silencers on head of frame for pairs of doors.

6. Finish: Factory paint finish.

B. Frame Anchors: Minimum of six wall anchors and two base anchors. Provide with an additional anchor for every 30 inches (760 mm) over 90 inches (2286 mm).

1.6 STICK ASSEMBLIES

A. Architectural Stick Assemblies: Standard profile frame material, notched or mitered to coordinate with adjoining frame members and forming square corners.

1. Thickness: 14 gage (1.7 mm).

2. Reinforce or prepare to receive required hardware.

3. Glazing Bead: Pre-punched, cut to proper length and shipped loose for field installation.

4. Perform all fabrication in shop or plant; field joints permitted only when size of total assembly exceeds shipping limitations.

5. Exterior Wind Load-Bearing Assemblies: Vertical load-bearing members fabricated without splices.

1.7 FACTORY FINISH

A. All doors, frames, and stick components shall be cleaned and finished in accordance with ANSI A250.10, "Test Procedure and Acceptance Criteria for Prime Painted Steel Surfaces for Steel Doors and Frames".

B. Preparation: Clean and phosphatize surfaces of steel doors and frames".

C. Primer: Apply one coat of a gray, alkyd acrylic enamel primer, forced cured.

D. Finish: Paint with alkyd acrylic enamel using a two-coat process, with each coat being force cured after each coating.

1.8 AIR & WEATHER SEAL

A. All doors and frame weather stripping and gasketing shall be installed in accordance with United Facilities Guide Specifications Division 8 section 2.3.21[2018] and in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.22.

B. Provide a set to include head and jamb seals [, sweep strips,] [and, for pairs of doors, astragals]. Air leakage of weather-stripped doors not to exceed 2.19 by 10-5 cubic meters per second or 0.5 cubic feet per minute of air per square meter foot of door area when tested in accordance with ASTM E283. Provide weather-stripping with one of the following:

i) 2.3.21.1 Extruded Aluminum Retainers

(a) Extruded aluminum retainers not less than 1.25 mm 0.050 inch wall thickness with vinyl, neoprene, silicone rubber, or polyurethane inserts. Provide bronze anodized aluminum.

B. ELECTRICAL WORK

Work shall include providing all materials, labor and transportation to install new electrical circuits.

(1) None

III. PART 3 EXECUTION

A. Installation Work. The contractor shall:

1. Survey, identify, layout, repair framework/replace existing doors and hinges, properly align door and frame.

2. Provide all materials and labor required to install the following specified glass and aluminum doors/hinges into existing door framework.

3. After doors and components replacement are completed, the system shall be inspected, tested, certified and accepted by COR.

4. Contractor shall reset and place back into full service the complete door system, components and appurtenances for a complete, fully functional and operational entrance door system that is aligned, plumb, true, and in plane.

5. Remove the existing doors and hardware and return them to US Government. The COR shall designate area of placement/storage.

6. All removed doors/appurtenances shall remain property of the US Government. COR shall designate area of placement/storage.

7. Contractor shall submit all signed documents to the COR and Contracting officer upon completion of the work

8. All work shall be inspected, approved, and accepted by the Government Representative prior to payment.

9. EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. Verify that substrate conditions are acceptable for installation of doors and frames in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions and technical bulletins.

C. Verify door frame openings are installed plumb, true, and level.

D. Select fasteners of adequate type, number, and quality to perform intended functions.

E. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

10. PREPARATION

A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

11. INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Install frames plumb, level, rigid and in true alignment in accordance with ANSI A250.11, "Recommended Erection Instructions for Steel Frames" and ANSI

A115.IG, "Installation Guide for Doors and Hardware".

C. All frames other than slip-on types shall be fastened to the adjacent structure to retain their position and stability. Drywall slip-on frames shall be installed in prepared wall openings, and shall use pressure type and sill anchors to maintain stability.

D. Where grouting is required in masonry installations, frames shall be braced or fastened to prevent the pressure of the grout from deforming the frame members.

Grout shall be mixed to provide a 4 inch (102 mm) maximum slump and hand troweled into place. Grout mixed to a thin "pumpable" consistency shall not be used.

E. Install fire-rated doors and frames in accordance with NFPA 80 and local code authority requirements.

F. Install doors to maintain alignment with frames to achieve maximum operational effectiveness and appearance. Adjust to maintain perimeter clearances as required. Shim as needed to assure the proper clearances are achieved.

G. Install hardware as specified in Section 08710 in accordance with the hardware manufacturer's recommendations and templates. ANSI A115.IG, "Installation Guide for Doors and Hardware" shall be consulted for other pertinent information.

12. CLEARANCES

A. Clearance between the door and frame head and jambs for both single swing and pairs of doors shall be 1/8 inch (3.2 mm).

B. Clearance between the meeting edges of pairs of doors shall be 3/16 inch plus or minus 1/16 inch (5 mm plus or minus 1.6 mm). For fire rated applications, the clearance between the meeting edges of pairs of doors shall be 1/8 inch plus or minus 1/16 inch (3.2 mm plus or minus 1.6 mm).

C. Bottom clearance shall be 3/4 inch (19 mm). (Standard)

D. The clearance between the face of the door and door stop shall be 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch (1.6 mm plus or minus 3.2 mm).

E. All clearances shall be, unless otherwise specified, subject to a tolerance of plus or minus 1/32 inch (.4 mm).

13. ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A. Adjust doors for free swing without binding.

B. Adjust hinge sets, locksets, and other hardware. Lubricate using a suitable lubricant compatible with door and frame coatings.

C. Remove temporary coverings and protection of adjacent work areas. Repair or replace damaged installed products. Clean installed products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions before owner's acceptance.

D. Remove from project site and legally dispose of construction debris associated with this work.

1. PROTECTION

A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

IV. ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATION SECTION

1. No hazardous waste shall be transported onto United States Army property at Devens

Reserve Forces Training Area, Devens, MA. 01434

2. Less hazardous or non-hazardous materials will be substituted for hazardous materials, unless specifically required elsewhere in this contract. Where hazardous materials are needed, users will adhere to all applicable federal, OSHA, and State regulations regarding the management and handling of hazardous materials. In the absence of regulations, users will apply the best available technology or management in the use, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials. Any and all questions and or concerns pertaining to hazardous materials shall be vetted by Gerald. W. Larson, Environmental Officer Directorate of Public Works Fort Devens RFTA [Gerald.w.larson.civ@mail.mil]

3. Contractor will submit Material Safety Data Sheets (5 copies) for all hazardous materials to be used in this contract.

4. RELEASE REPORTING: Any release of oil (Including leaks from hydraulic hoses and equipment), hazardous waste, or hazardous material at Devens RFTA or at sites supported by Devens RFTA, shall be immediately reported to the Devens RFTA Director of Public Works, Raymond Prisk @ 978-796-3665 and the Environmental Coordinator Emily C Babbitt Denacasio @ 978-796-2747, during normal work hours.

This clause does not relieve the contractor of reporting requirements including State and Federal laws (EPA or Massachusetts DEP). Releases outside of normal working hours shall be reported to the DOD Police @978-796-3333.

5. Any hazardous waste released to the environment (including leaks from hydraulic hoses and equipment) as a result of the contractor's work shall be the sole responsibility of the contractor and shall be cleaned up at no expense to the government. Any release shall be cleaned up and site approved by Gerald. W.

6. Neither the need to comply with this provision nor any cost or delays caused by failure to comply with applicable environmental laws will be the basis for an extension of time for task or contract completion, an equitable price adjustment, or the relaxing of any contract requirements. The contractor will immediately contact Emily C Babbitt Denacasio@ 978-796-2747 any time an incident occurs.

7. The contractor is required by law to contact the Federal, Local Environmental

Agency or Occupational, Safety and Health Agencies for any reason related to compliance requirements arising out of performance of this contract.

8. In the event any agency contacts the contractor for any reason relating to compliance requirements arising out of performance on this contract, the contractor shall immediately inform the DPW Environmental Coordinator and the Contracting Officer no later than the close of business on the day the contact is made. If such communication is after normal business hours, notification will be made immediately on the next business day. The contractor shall also provide the name, telephone number of the agency, name of the person making the contact and the substance of any verbal or written communication from such agency. Any coordination with regulatory agencies to discuss the extent of the law requirements will first be made through the Director of Public Works.
