About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for upfitting two Type-6 Wildland Firefighting Vehicles for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. The SOW requires a vendor to customize a 2024 Ford F-450 Chassis with specific equipment and modifications, including a 275-gallon water tank, Hannay Reels, Hale Pump, multiple lighting systems, communications equipment, and extensive brush protection and structural reinforcements.

Key requirements include mounting a pump and tank, installing expanded metal and mesh protective components, adding winches and recovery shackles, implementing electrical systems with multiple switches, and fabricating protective piping and steel plates for the truck's body, undercarriage, and cab. The vendor must be located within specified distances from the base, have experience in wildland fire apparatus upfitting, and complete the project within 180 calendar days after contract award. The government will provide most major components, and the vendor is responsible for installation, wiring, and additional supporting hardware.

STATEMENT OF WORK

UPLIFT TYPE-6 BRUSH TRUCK

JOINT BASE MDL, NEW JERSEY

1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: The contractor shall provide labor for one (1) - two

(2) upfitted Type-6 Wildland Firefighting Vehicle to include listed equipment as specified below to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

2. GENERAL SCOPE OF WORK: The Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Fire & Emergency Services Flight (U.S. Government) seeks a fabricator with experience building Type 6 Wildland Fire Engines that are equipped with brush cages and under carriage protection. These trucks will be equipped with full brush cages, which are a series of pipes, bars, and metal plates that are bolted to the truck. This protection includes steel skid plates under the truck to protect the fuel tank, engine, transmission, emission components and other vital parts. The brush protection covers the top, front, rear and undercarriage as well as reinforces the sides of the body. The New Jersey Pine Barrens environment consists of sandy soil and thick under story, with Pitch Pine and Sort Leaf Virginia Pine being the primary trees. These trees have shallow roots which allow skilled firefighters the ability to aggressively run down a fire. This tactic consists of two trucks cutting a path (physically pushing the trees over) into the woods with the truck and driving counterclockwise around the fire while constructing control lines. This brush cage also allows for swift egress from rapidly changing conditions in emergency situations.
