About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), Product Manager Engineer Systems, conducting market research under FAR Part 10 to identify potential sources for Tactical Gap Crossing Systems (TGCS). The MCSC seeks an expeditionary bridging capability to enable Fleet Marine Force operations by providing light- and medium-weight combat and tactical vehicles with means to overcome natural and man-made obstacles while maintaining tactical momentum and freedom of maneuver. The Marine Corps anticipates a requirement for approximately 69 TGCS units and seeks a modular, scalable, transportable system capable of rapid deployment via sea lift, internal fixed-wing air transportation, and ground transport assets without reliance on heavy support equipment. Responses must be submitted by 08 May 2026 at 1300 Eastern Time to stefanie.conway@usmc.mil, with a seven-megabyte email size limit enforced.
System requirements specify minimum Military Load Classification (MLC) 40 with objective MLC 60, minimum usable roadway width of 3.6 meters, minimum span capability of 12 meters with 15-meter objective, 75 percent Sustainment Material Availability (objective 90 percent), 75 percent Operational Availability (objective 90 percent), Mean Time Between Operational Mission Failures of 60 cycles annually over 1,200 total crossings within 20-year lifecycle, 6,500 bridge crossings at MLC 40 threshold, Mean Time To Repair of six hours maximum, deployment and retrieval within 15 minutes (objective five minutes), and operation by an Engineer Squad of 13 Marines with objective employment by four-Marine Fire Team. Vendors must provide rough order of magnitude pricing with annual escalation percentage, production lead time and monthly production rate, specification sheets demonstrating requirement compliance, relevant certifications (SBA 8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Small Disadvantaged Business, or AbilityOne Program status if applicable), prior government test reports, manuals, and experience supporting DoD units. No industry day is planned, no solicitation release date is established, and all submissions become Government property and will not be returned.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
FOR
Tactical Gap Crossing Capability
1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION.
This Request for Information (RFI) initiates market research under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 10 and is not a Request for Proposal. The information herein only initiates communication with industry to assess market potential. No solicitation document exists currently. This RFI constitutes no Government obligation to procure these items or issue a solicitation. The Government does not have an obligation to pay for information responding to this RFI and will not accept any responses as offers. Vendors should mark any proprietary information clearly and appropriately.
2.0 PURPOSE.
The Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), Product Manager, Engineer Systems (PdM ES), is conducting market research to identify potential sources capable of providing Tactical Gap Crossing Systems (TGCS) in support of Fleet Marine Force (FMF) operations. The TGCS is envisioned as an expeditionary bridging capability that affords Marine forces an expedient and transportable means to overcome natural and man-made obstacles to ensure tactical momentum and freedom of maneuver across the range of military operations. These capabilities enable the degree of mobility required to sustain FMF ground maneuver and ensure the Military Load Classification (MLC) capacity necessary to support the Marine Corps’ combat and tactical vehicle inventory.
Presently, the FMF lacks an organic capability to enable light- and medium-weight combat and tactical vehicle mobility in conducting gap crossing operations. The Marine Corps seeks a modular, scalable, and easily transportable capability that can be configured for embarkation across maritime and air transport platforms and deployed or recovered rapidly without reliance on additional construction or heavy support equipment. The system shall be capable of being transported by and supporting light- and medium-weight combat and tactical vehicles and must be rapidly deployable by intra-theater sea lift, internal fixed-wing air transportation, and ground transport assets. The capability must possess sufficient ground mobility to maintain the operational pace of the supported unit and enable responsive, expeditionary maneuver across a variety of environments.
The Marine Corps anticipates a requirement for approximately 69 TGCS units. There is no planned release date for a Request for Proposal (RFP) at this time.
3.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND PERFORMANCE ATTRIBUTES.
The TGCS must meet the following system requirements:
1. Military Load Classification (MLC):
The TGCS shall support a minimum of MLC 40 (threshold) with an objective of MLC 60 to accommodate light and medium tactical and combat vehicles.
2. Roadway Width:
The TGCS shall meet minimum wheelbase width of all USMC ultra-light, light- and medium-weight combat and tactical vehicles over useful spans and provide a minimum usable roadway width of 3.6 meters (12 feet).
3. Span Capability:
The TGCS shall be capable of supporting all USMC ultra-light, light- and medium-weight combat and tactical vehicles over useful spans and shall span a minimum gap of 12 meters (39.3 feet) (threshold) with an objective of 15 meters (49.2 feet).
4. Sustainment – Material Availability:
The TGCS shall have a minimum Sustainment Material Availability (Am) of 75% with an objective of 90%.
5. Sustainment – Operational Availability The TGCS shall have a minimum Sustainment Operational Availability (Ao) of 75% with an objective of 90%.
6. Reliability (Operational Usage):
The TGCS shall have a Mean Time Between Operational Mission Failures (MTBOMF) of 60 launch and retrieve cycles per year, for a minimum of 1,200 total crossings over a 20-year life cycle.
7. Reliability (Load Capacity):
The TGCS shall withstand 6,500 bridge crossings at MLC 40 (threshold) with an objective of 6,500 bridge crossings at MLC 60 without structural failure or degradation in performance.
8. Maintainability:
The TGCS shall have a Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) of no more than 6 hours (threshold) and 3 hours (objective) using standard hand tools and authorized repair parts.
9. Transported/Deployed/Recovered By:
The TGCS shall be capable of being transported, deployed, and recovered by Medium Tactical Vehicles (threshold) and Light Tactical Vehicles or Unmanned Ground Vehicles (objective).
10. Transportability:
The TGCS shall be transportable via standard sea, rail, highway, and air transportation assets. The system must be capable of rapid deployment by intra-theater sea lift, internal fixed-wing air transportation, and ground transport assets, and shall possess sufficient ground mobility to maintain the operational pace of the supported unit. Solution should be designed to move with its host vehicle as a mission payload and be transportable by either commercial or Joint-certified military conveyance across air, sea, and land domains.
11. Employed By:
The TGCS shall be capable of being assessed for use and employed by an Engineer Squad (13 Marines), with an objective of employment by an Engineer Fire Team (4 Marines).
12. Time to Deploy/Retrieve:
The TGCS shall be capable of being fully deployed or retrieved within 15 minutes (threshold) and 5 minutes (objective). The design shall enable rapid employment and recovery to minimize operator exposure during emplacement and retrieval operations.
13. Curbing/Marking:
The TGCS shall include curb edges and marker posts to assist vehicle operators in identifying bridge boundaries during crossing. The curb shall at a minimum be 0.15 meters in height, and the marker posts shall be 1.0 meter in height. These features provide visual and physical cues to mitigate the risk of vehicles driving off the sides of the bridge.
