About this file

This is a Technical Specification document for a Continuous Purge Layup System (CPLS) Condenser Manifold to be delivered to Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).

The CPLS Condenser Manifold is a portable, dry air layup manifold designed for all CVN-class nuclear aircraft carriers (NIMITZ and FORD CLASS) undergoing overhaul at NNSY. The manifold introduces dried air to major components to halt or eliminate corrosion formation during maintenance periods when components are not in use. The system must be fully enclosed in a Pelican or equivalent case with access windows, measure 3/4" in diameter using components rated for 150 psi minimum, and include one inlet shutoff valve and two outlet shutoff valves for isolation capabilities. Design specifications include Norgren R74C series pressure regulators (5 psi minimum), Kunkle Model 1 safety relief valves set to 30 psi, Ashcroft 1006 series pressure gages (0-200 psi inlet, 0-60 psi outlet), and 3/4" NPT RCM Industries flowmeters (0-200 SCFM). All piping and components must be constructed of steel, stainless steel, copper, or copper alloy materials, with prohibited use of halogens or sulfur compounds except polytetrafluoroethylene. The contractor must deliver six (6) manifolds with arrival at NNSY no later than October 1, 2024, and provide one-year commercial warranty from delivery/acceptance date. Contractor deliverables include as-built drawings, testing documentation, operations and maintenance manuals, technical instructions, parts lists, OEM/vendor test reports, and operating instructions. All components must meet cleanliness standards per STR-4P37 and STR-4P38, with manifolds designed for continuous year-round unmanned operation under ambient conditions.
