The characteristics described above shall be deemed as being met in full when the pipes comply with UNI 9035 standards and compliance is supported by a declaration of conformity.
3.5 CONSTRUCTION OF WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
1. By water-supply system we intend the apparatus, pipes, supply equipment that transfers drinking water (or non-drinking where this is allowed) from a source (public aqueduct, well, etc.) to outlets.
The systems, unless specified differently in other tender documents (or if these should not be sufficiently detailed) shall be subdivided as follows:
a) feed systems for drinking water.
b) feed systems for non-drinking water.
The methodology for supplying drinking and non-drinking water is determined by the appropriate authority, which is also responsible for
- 22 -checking the quality of the water.
The above systems are functionally subdivided as follows:
i) feed sources
ii) cold water distribution network
iii) hot water preparation and distribution network.
2. The materials indicated in the tender documents shall be used to carry out the different functional parts. If these are not specified in detail, the following indications shall be adhered to, as well as those supplied for components. As a further point of reference, UNI 9182 standard shall be used for reference.
a) Feed sources for drinking water shall be consist of:
i) public aqueducts managed or controlled by a public authority; or
ii) Collection systems (wells, etc.) supplying water that has been approved for drinking by the appropriate authorities; or
iii) Other sources such as large storage, conditioning plants.
Storage plants (large storage plants are subject to public authorities and usually furnished with an automatic conditioning system) must be authorized in advance by the appropriate authorities and must have the following characteristics:
- airtight in order to prevent pollution from the outside;
- made with non-polluting, and non-toxic material able to maintain the same characteristics over a period of time;
- air outlets and overflow shall be protected with filtering devices that comply with indications from the appropriate authorities;
- furnished with a device that ensures the total replacement of water every two days for tanks with a capacity of up to 30 cubic meters and a replacement of not less than 15 cu.m. per day for tanks with a larger capacity.
- must be disinfected before put into operation and periodically cleaned and disinfected.
b) Water distribution networks shall have the following characteristics:
ii) the pipes shall be installed at a distance from the wall sufficient enough to permit removal of protective lining and/or insulation. The conformation shall permit them to be emptied completely and the air eliminated. When hot water circulation networks for domestic use are included, they shall be furnished with dilation correctors and fixing points in order to maintain the desired conformation;
iii) water pipes shall not be located inside electrical cabins, above electrical equipment panels or near materials that could become dangerous if wetted, inside trash-collection rooms or areas that have polluting substances.
Furthermore, the cold water pipes shall run below the hot water pipes.
Laying the pipes inside walls should be avoided. When this is not possible the pipes should be lined with insulating and compressible material at least 1 cm. thick;
iv) Pipes laid in the ground shall be placed at least one meter (measured between the outer surfaces) from drainpipes. The lower generating line shall always be above the highest point of the drainpipes. The metal pipes shall be protected from corrosion by the soil with suitable linings or sheaths and from the danger of being crossed by stray currents;
- 23 -
v) insulation shall be installed both for condenser of the hidden cold water pipes and for the hot water pipes for domestic use. When necessary protection against frost shall be taken into consideration.
c) When constructing the system care must be taken in considering minimum distances when installing the bathroom fixtures (see UNI 9182 code, appendix V and W) and the special specifications for rooms to be used by handicapped persons (law n. 13 dated 9-1-1989 and Ministerial Decree n. 236 dated 14-6-1989).
In bathrooms, specifications concerning safety shall be complied with (distances of fixtures from parts of the electrical system) as indicated in CEI 64-8 standards.
In order to limit transmission of noise and vibrations, in addition to choosing components with low noise levels (and suitable design criteria), during the construction phase, care shall be taken to adopt correct inner sections for the pipes so as not to exceed the expected water flow velocity, limit the fluids' pressure especially for shut-off and control devices, and reduce pump motors speed, etc.
(not more than 1,500 rpm on an average). During the installation phase, care shall be given to making dilation devices, inserting anti-vibration supports and shock absorbers to avoid propagation of vibrations, acoustic insulation shall be used near the walls.
4 DRAINAGE SYSTEM
By drainage system we intend the pipes, equipment, etc. that transfers water from the user point to the public sewer. The drainage system shall be independent of the rain water disposal system, at least to the point of emission into the public sewer.
Where necessary, the drain system can be subdivided into different systems carrying fecal, soapy or greasy waters. The disposal of used waters shall comply with specifications issued by appropriate authorities.
The above system shall be deemed functional when subdivided as follows:
section to pipe water (unions, branches, risers, manifolds);
section designated for primary ventilation;
section designated for secondary ventilation;
