Definitions:
1) Cesspool: Is a bored structure in the ground whose depth is greater than its widest surface dimension which receives raw wastewater, retains the raw waste solids, and allows the liquid to seep through its bottom or sides into the subsurface.
2)Holding Tank: Means a non-portable watertight tank that is designed to only receive and temporarily store wastewater.
3) Individual Wastewater System (IWS): A system that comprises of structures that generates wastewater, structures that receives wastewater such as septic tanks and cesspools, and structures that release treated wastewater into the environment such as underground injection control wells.
4) Leaching Well: A bored structure in the ground whose depth is greater than its widest surface dimension which receives treated greywater and allows the liquid to seep through its bottom or sides into the subsurface.
5) Non-Typical Solid Waste Disposal: Defined as solid wastewater collected from the cesspools and septic tank systems that contain foreign material (i.e. sanitary wipes, ammunition, foreign objects found mixed in the wastewater tank) that are found to be NOT ACCEPTABLE at the wastewater collection and treatment facility, and must be separated out from the wastewater material for final disposal.
6) Typical Cesspool and Septic Tank Solid Wastewater: Defined as normal solid wastewater collected from the cesspools and septic tank systems that are accepted by the wastewater collection and treatment facility for final disposal.
7) Underground Injection Control Well (UIC Well): A bored well whose depth is greater than its diameter and is designed to dispose of septic tank treated wastewater effluent by injection into the subsurface.
8) Septic Tank: A watertight tank that receives the raw wastewater. The raw wastewater is then treated by the bacteria and discharges a treated wastewater effluent.
