About this file
This document is a technical requirements specification for femtosecond industrial lasers to be delivered to NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.
The laser system must be delivered within four months of contract award. The system comprises a laser head (615.3 x 362 x 139 mm) and power supply unit (496 x 483 x 184 mm) connected by a 5-meter umbilical cable. The laser operates on standard 100–240 V AC single-phase power (47–63 Hz) with passive air cooling and functions in ISO 9 room air environments at 15–30°C with 10–80% relative humidity. The primary wavelength is 1030 nm with second harmonic generation at 515 nm. Critical performance specifications include minimal pulse duration less than 300 femtoseconds (typical 230 fs) at 1030 nm with tunable pulse duration ranging from 300 fs to 2.5 picoseconds, maximal average output power exceeding 1.2 watts at 515 nm, maximum pulse energy greater than 1.2 microjoules, and burst mode capability of 1–10 pulses. The system must maintain power long-term stability with standard deviation of 0.50% and pulse energy stability below 2%. Additional beam characteristics include an M² value less than 1.2, beam divergence below 1.0 milliradians (full angle), and beam diameter of 1.0 ± 0.2 mm at 36 centimeters from the laser aperture. The laser provides 0–100% power attenuation via remote control application or analog input.
