About this file
This is a vehicle specifications document for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Day Labor program outlining requirements for a Super Tandem Dump Truck with Pusher Axle featuring an 86,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The document establishes detailed technical and performance specifications for a single unit acquisition. The vehicle is intended for use in IDOT day labor operations, with specifications designed to meet heavy-duty dumping and material hauling requirements typical of state transportation maintenance and construction activities.
The specifications document provides comprehensive mechanical and operational requirements including engine specifications, transmission type, axle configurations, brake systems, suspension specifications, and body dimensions. The vehicle must comply with federal and Illinois state regulations for commercial motor vehicles and demonstrate capability for sustained heavy-load operations. Specific attention is given to the pusher axle configuration and 86k GVWR classification, which indicates the vehicle's capacity for significant payload and operational demands. The document serves as the basis for competitive bidding, establishing minimum acceptable standards that potential vendors must meet in their proposals. Additional procurement details including pricing terms, delivery timelines, and contract award conditions would be contained in the associated solicitation documents issued by IDOT.

Body Finish:
Special Finish Requirements:
The Finish application and adhesion is a very important aspect of a finished IDOT truck. It is a necessity that ALL manufactured ferrous equipment attached to an IDOT truck be completely prepped, sanded or media blasted to remove all mill scale, oils, rust, shipping primers or other contaminants from its surfaces. This includes all mounting brackets, snowplow hitch, underbody scraper, wings, pintle plate, oil tank, valve enclosures and dump bodies. All items must be coated individually prior to any assembly that is needed.
Manufacturers’ standard painting application processes to be practiced. These may include the use of base coat/clear coat application. Other applications will be considered if discussed and agreed to prior to production. The Illinois Department of Transportation will be the only source to approve any other alternative to the products listed. Any proposed product must be lead free with low VOC levels.
Powder coat will be equal to a TGIC Super Durable polyester powder with additives for UV and wear resistance. The powder coating to meet a minimum of 1,500 hours salt spray test per ASTM B-117 testing. Documentation to be submitted upon request.
Approved colors for dump body are Fleet orange matching cab or manufacturer’s standard black.
Rust/Corrosion/Oxidation Undercoat Requirements:
The entire underside of the dump body including the inside of the longitudinals and the interior of the rear corner posts to be thoroughly coated. See previous information on page 12.
Special Reflective Tape:
Oralite, Reflexite AP or equivalent yellow reflective tape minimum 3" wide to be continuously applied to both sides of the dump body above the lower rail. Another single strip to be applied to the top, rear face of the rock shield and one across top rear face of tailgate. The application and location will be subject to pre-build review.
