About this file
This is a product specification document for the PlaySafe50 Select (126sw) Artificial Turf system manufactured by Shaw Industries and distributed by No Fault, LLC, related to a playground surfacing bid opportunity with the Fontana Unified School District in California. The specification details a comprehensive playground turf system designed for high-use public playgrounds that includes nominal 1.5-inch polyethylene fibers tufted into a dimensionally stable backing with secondary urethane backing of minimum 17 ounces per square yard. The system must be IPEMA certified per ASTM F1292 with a G-max value less than 200 and Head Injury Criteria less than 1,000, be 100 percent wheelchair accessible compliant with ASTM F1951, and drain up to 130 inches per hour per ASTM F1551. Installation includes a 4-inch compacted aggregate limestone or granite base, Brock Play Base or Brock SSP20 closed-cell foam underlayment pads for impact attenuation, and HydroChil cooling sand infill mixture engineered to reduce surface temperature and extend turf fiber life. The Fontana Unified School District's Bid No. 25/26-0019 seeks unit-price installation of new playground equipment, surfacing, and shade structures, along with repairs and overlays to existing equipment and surfacing across multiple school sites on an as-needed basis. Questions must be submitted through the e-procurement portal no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, with bids due by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The resulting contract shall be for one year with options to renew for up to five additional years at the District's discretion.
This is a public works contract subject to California prevailing wage requirements, and all contractors and subcontractors must be registered with the Department of Industrial Relations before bidding and throughout the project duration. The District will provide all playground, outdoor equipment, and surfacing materials, while the contractor must furnish all labor, installation hardware, incidentals, and related services. The PlaySafe50 Select (126sw) system carries a 5-year wear warranty and 10-year fade warranty, with foam pad life expectancy ranging from 15 to 20 years depending on the thickness and critical fall height rating. The specification allows for adjustments to the compacted aggregate subbase to accommodate local area topography and climate, subject to approval by the turf manufacturer and installer prior to installation. Contact for the turf system is Jennifer Smith at No Fault, LLC, 225-424-8843, jennifer.smith@nofault.com.
