About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details shot peening services for 774 Class propulsion shafts at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY). The SOW requires a vendor to perform two types of peening: shot peening and rotary flap peening on Inconel 625 clad shafts, with specific technical requirements including ceramic shot size of 0.033 inches, peening intensity of 0.008-0.012 A, and 100% coverage of a 275 ft² area. Vendors must demonstrate prior experience with non-shipboard shot and rotary peening on similar components and have NAVSEANOTE 5000 qualification for SUBSAFE work, with priority given to qualified vendors.
Key quality assurance provisions require the vendor to provide detailed certification documentation including shaft serial number, peening date, machine settings, shot characteristics, Almen strip measurements, and coverage verification. The work will be performed at PNSY, with the government providing the shaft, electrical power, service air, rollers, and masking. Strict security requirements mandate that all personnel must be U.S. citizens, provide two forms of identification, and undergo vetting for base access. Safety protocols include wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and following OSHA and shipyard safety standards.
